We all stood still for a few minuets to catch our breath and assess our damage. I collapsed against the wall, cradling my wrist that was bent at an odd angle. I looked up as a figure knelt in front of me. Newt ripped off a strip of his shirt and bundled it into a wad. He swept away some hair that was plastered to my face before pressing the cloth against my cut cheek. His brown eyes were full of concern and concentration as he dabbed the blood away.
"Thanks." I said looking away, trying to rid my body of the fluttery feeling. He grabbed my uninjured arm and hoisted me up.
"We are almost there. Lets go." There was a collection of groans, but everyone stood up and followed me down the dark corridor. The hall curved to the right, like I remembered and we were faced with the neon EXIT sign. Everyone stood in silence staring at it.
"This is it?" Fry asked.
"Shuck." Minho muttered, "Welp, here we go." And he pushed the door open. I led them, stepping into a laboratory of some sort. There was a window to the right and everyone looked in, only to gag at the two bodies that were on tables, shot.
"What the bloody hell." Newt whispered. I continued forward, stepping over broken glass, into a circular room. There was a ring of tables in the middle with glitching videos of the Glade. There were bloody sot bodies lying everywhere. I walked slowly over to a monitor with a blond haired lady on it. As I neared the video began playing.
"Hello. My name is Doctor Ava Paige. I'm Director of Operations of the World Catastrophe Killzone Department. If you're watching this, that means you've successfully completed the Maze Trials. I wish I could be there in person to congratulate you... but circumstances seem to have prevented it." In the background of the video people are running around, seemingly trying to escape, "I'm sure by now, you must all be very confused, angry, frightened. I can only assure you that everything that's happened to you, everything we've done to you, it was all done for a reason. You won't remember, but the sun has scorched our world." The screen cut to show pictures of Earth in ruins and on fire, "Billions of lives lost to fire, famine, suffering on a global scale. The fallout was unimaginable. What came after was worse. We called it the Flare, a deadly virus that attacks the brain." It cut again to a man with black veins thrashing around on a table, "It is violent, unpredictable... incurable - or so we thought. In time, a new generation emerged that could survive the virus. Suddenly, there was a reason to hope for a cure, but finding it would not be easy. The young would have to be tested, even sacrificed, inside harsh environments, where their brain activity could be studied, all in an effort to understand what makes them different - what makes you different. You may not realize it, but you're very important." In the background, people dressed in black ran in and started shooting everyone, "Unfortunately, your trials have only just begun. As you'll no doubt soon discover, not everyone agrees with our methods. Progress is slow, people are scared. It may be too late for us... for me... but not for you. The outside world awaits. Remember: Wicked is good." The woman raised a gun to the side of her head and pulled the trigger, before a person in the background shot through the window.
"The hell?!" Frypan said in a loud panicked voice.
"What do we do?" Winston asked.
"We leave."
"I can't let you do that." A rough and farmiliar voice said. I turned around quickly.
"Gally?"
