"Hold the pan, Ashley!" Maddie yelled over the pressure cooker's squealing sound. I yelped when my hand made contact with the not metal and glared at Maddie as she continued to urge me to hold it. That girl was out of her damn mind, if she thought I was just going to hold that pot, then she was in for a surprise.

"Ashley you have to ho..."

"You have a serious problem woman. You know what, why don't I cut the vegetables and you hold the pan, then everyone would be happy and only one person would be burnt!" I laughed silently as she turned around quietly and continued her work.

It was two weeks ever since the incident and I was still worried about the Jade thing and things between Damian and me weren't smooth anymore. Not that they were before, but it's not better for sure. I stared at the ceiling, trying to figure out a reason why Jade would want me dead, or even worse, why would she feed me to vampires? Was I hated so much by her? I think not, she just has some serious problems.

Maddie somehow had changed for the small number of days that I was away. I don't what came over her, nor what she was probably going through. It didn't seem like a tragedy but it seemed out of place. And ever since I came back, Daniel was staying clear of me ever since. What have I done? I seriously have no idea.

My thoughts were interrupted when Kyle came bouncing into the kitchen with a big smile on his face. I had to fight the urge I had to slap it off.

"Hey ladies! Whatcha cooking?" he asked brightly. Too bright for my liking. He didn't seem like he cared about what happened with Jade, and that's what I had always hated about him. He acted as if serious things weren't such a big deal.

"Just some lunch," Maddie replied smiling. For some odd reason, she got along with him fine. It's been like that from the time she met him and I still don't understand how.

"Ok. How about you Ashley? You don't seem like much help just leaning there." His hobby, testing my patience.

"How about I help you pack and leave. That'd be very productive," I told him, his smile vanishing immediately and I felt smug inside.

"Well, some things haven't changed at all. Still got that sour attitude trailing behind you." I chuckled softly.

"If you haven't noticed, I'm only sour to you." He shook his and looked at me sadly. His eyes mirrored hurt and tried my best not to feel bad for him, but I failed terribly and I'm sure it showed on my face.

"I know we've only been through some rough times together but I'm only here to support you as a friend. But I understand if I'm not welcomed here," he began and started to leave.

"No Kyle, wait! I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything I said, it's true!" I called after him. I seriously needed to learn to keep some of my thoughts to myself.

He nodded at me but still left the kitchen. I assumed he was going to relax elsewhere or ponder on what I told him. I sighed and looked at Maddie.

"He sure is a handful," she commented.

"Tell me about it." I pulled out one of the novels I had carried downstairs with me and began to read, or started to when I heard heavy footsteps in the kitchen. I looked up to see Damian and Aiden approaching us. They looked serious and somehow haunted.

"What's wrong," Maddie asked before I could.

"I think the other packs are disagreeing with you living with us because you have attracted some vampires into our and their territory," Damian said looking at me.

"What does that mean?" I asked

"It's possible they might want to go to war with us."

What have I done? It's my fault everyone has to go through all this stress. I was sure they had a better life before I arrived. No, I was turning their own kind against them.

Guards were being posted at every corner of the land boundary. It was normal procedure before, but now, it was for precautions. It was two days after Damian told me about the potential attack but nothing had happened. We didn't receive any threats from my captor at the club either. It was relieving but it left me on edge.

I was anxious, waiting for the action but every day just seemed too normal to be true. I sipped my black coffee slowly, blowing off the steam. Somehow, Kyle had convinced Damian to let him stay so it was a fuller house now. And ever since what happened with Jade occurred, I wasn't allowed to leave the house without an accompaniment. And by that, I mean a wolf, not a human.

The doorbell rang, pulling me from my trance. I strolled through the living to the front door, still holding the mug of coffee in my hands. I peeped through the peephole and saw a young boy standing innocently outside. He seemed to be somewhat six years old and so I didn't hesitate in opening the door since the weather was gradually getting colder these days. I was already expecting snow.

He was shivering from his head to his toes and looked at me with wide piercing blue eyes.

"Who's at the door?" I heard Maddie's voice nearing as she came closer to me. Who was at the door? That was a good question.
