Strider flew across the sand as fast as he could go, beating his wings as fast as he could to beat the other sand wings.
He was having another race with his siblings, as they had just finished school. He knew he wasn't gonna win, but at least he could beat one of them.
Ahead of him, was Scorch, his brother who had anger issues. On the other side was his his sister, Sizzle, who was way behind them.
He looked behind him again, even if he wasn't faster than his brother, he was at least faster than his sister. He saw the frustrating look on her face and nearly felt bad. But he didn't feel bad enough, the finish was right up ahead, and he was most definitely not going to come in last.
Suddenly he saw his sister quickly move one talon on the knotted necklace that was blowing in the wind. He knew exactly what she was doing.
His sister sped up ahead of them as soon as she lifted her talon off the necklace. Scorch growled lashing his tail and reached for her, but his talons stopped midway, as if hitting a forcefeild.
His sister landed on the rocks crowded in the sand, grinning at he brothers.
"I win." She said sprouting her wings with pride.
Scorch growled menacingly at her.
"No, you don't, you cheated! We all know you used your stupid magic AGAIN."
Strider peered around the area, to make sure nobody but his siblings were in earshot. They had kept it a secret from all other SandWings, to make sure the queen doesn't use Sizzle like the queens always do with their animus. They usually respected the limit of the animus, but his family wasn't taking any risk.
"I most certainly did not! Your just a slow poke." Sizzle hissed at Scorch.
Scorch growled, "I would like to see you race me without your pathetic powers, I would win for sure."
Sizzle flicked her tail, "I would still beat you."
Scorch lashed his tail again, leaping towards Sizzle. His sister flinched, but made a satisfied face as he was stopped midway, hitting on what seemed to be a forcefield around Sizzle.
Strider had suspected that she had used her magic to make sure
Scorch wouldn't be able to hurt her, but he had been hoping he was
wrong."Ha! It seems like making sure you can't touch me was a good idea."
Scorch hissed, drills of smoke coming from his nostrils as he glared at her.
Strider looked Sizzle in the eyes.
"You use your magic too much and you know it. Your soul-
Sizzle made an annoyed face, "I don't care! It's mine! Not yours! Stop telling me what to do, I'm perfectly fine."
Strider felt very frustrated, she would never listen to him, as always.
"No, you heard what mom and dad said, they can tell you what to do."
"No they can't, I can do whatever I want."
Strider knew he wasn't going to win this argument, his sister would never agree with anyone who didn't agree with her. He sighed looking over at a camel in the distance, it kind of made him hungry.
"Let's go home." He said glancing over to the spot where Scorch was, but he had already left.
"I'll go home when I want to go home!" Sizzle hissed.
Strider gave her a skeptical look. "Which is...?"
"...R- right now!" She said, quickly turning around and shooting into the air.
Strider quickly followed her in the air. He tried to catch up to her, but it was impossible, considering that she probably had an enchantment to be faster than him by a lot.
Please stop using your magic, he thought as she was already way ahead of him. A small part of him wanted her to stop using it for selfish reasons and to use it more for good reasons, but he knew the cost was too much. You need to stop now.
