Strider had always thought that one day when he had to get a tooth removed, had stubbed his claw painfully, had gotten in huge trouble at school, and his mother disappeared, had been the worst day of his life, but he was so, so wrong. Today was by far, the worst day of his life.

His brother is gone, his tail is broken, his father is probably looking all over for him right now, his sister is losing her soul, and the hut he was in right now was impossibly on fire, with nobody around to help him right now.

The fire spread across the sandstone walls and stone floors as if it was wood, and the palm leaf roof was already in a burst of flames. The only reason he could think of for a fire to start up in here is if one of the torches was still hot from being lit on fire and started back up a fire on the roof from it's smoke. But that still didn't explain how the stone was on fire. Not only that, but the fire seemed to be spreading three times as quickly. IT DIDN'T MAKE ANY SENSE.

Something even more strange happened though, a dragon whisked out the door, he barely even could glance at them before they were gone, and they had been wearing some kind of dark hood to cover themselves.

He leaped out of the bed, crashing onto the floor and landing on his tail, he let out a roar of pain and quickly got up and scrambled to the exit, but part of the roof fell in front of the exit, blocking it and setting more of the floor on fire.

He panicked, frantically looking around the room. He then spotted a window that wasn't completely on fire yet, maybe he could even fit through.

It's very risky, but it's my only chance.

He ran as fast as he could jumping over the fire and landing in the window, but his wings her stuck in it, causing almost half of his body to still be in the hut. The fire was getting closer and closer towards his tail, ready to swallow him whole.

He squeezed his wings into himself tightly, and pushed on the sandstone below his neck trying to boost himself out. He cried for help at the same time, hoping dragons around the village would wake up and help put out the fire.

His wings made it out, making it very easy for the rest of him to make it through the window as well. He crashed down on the sand, and quickly scrambled away from the hut. He turned his head around just then to see the hut burst into flames.

He watched as sandwings came from their homes gathering around the burning hut, some bringing water and throwing it onto the hut.

"GAH!" He cried patting down his tail in pain as he saw it was a little bit on fire. He peered at it, seeing that the bandages had been burned off.

Strider saw a few sandwings gather around him with mixed emotions on their faces. Some of them looked tired, some looked annoyed, some looked mad because the fire spread to their homes, some looked worried, and some had no idea what to feel.

He sighed, lying his head in the sand and curled his tail in, trying to keep all the noise out of his head.

I think I'm just gonna lay here and die for a while.
