"Have you two had sex?"

Wait, what?? Did she really ask? I was shocked.
Gene's sis said something about going to the bathroom and was gone in a second.
Was this planned? It looked planned.

"I know you're in the University and all grown up, you probably have, that's not the point, I just want to be assured you're having safe sex. I don't want you getting yourself into anything you cannot handle"

By "anything you cannot handle" she meant pregnancy. I'd had this conversation with my mom and even my dad, but with Gene's parents it just seemed weird. I was sweating bullets, Gene squeezed my had a little, like she was telling me to be cool. After about 20 minutes of awkward silence Gene's sis showed up, she'd finally decided to come bail us out.

"Mom,we've talked. They're very responsible, you know Genevieve. She's really careful."

Well Mom didn't look that convinced if you asked me. Thing is we come from two different generations, when they were teens, there was this whole religious battle against birth control.
So people hardly used them and teenage pregnancy was so bad.
Our generation is enlightened and better educated, not saying teenage pregnancy is old news, but personally, I wouldn't take that risk, always use protection if you have to...

We just sat there staring at the TV screen, no one said a word. It was like that until the parents decided they had to go sleep.
When they left the room Gene started laughing, soon  we were all laughing. Damn that was funny.
Gene's sis was a lifesaver, I don't know how that conversation would have gone if she didn't intervene.
Wait why hadn't she come with her bf ? It just occurred to me. Gene and I were all snuggled up and she was just there alone sipping on hot chocolate.
I went over and put my arms around her and whispered in her ear "I owe you one", Gene joined and we stayed like that for the rest of the night.

It was so sad we had to leave so soon.
Gene's sis made Gene and I ride back with her.
I really appreciated the break. My life had gotten too complicated. Like stuff you only see in movies.
Gene's parents had giving me a whole lot of stuff for school,I was trying to figure out where to pack all of it when I heard a knock. I asked who it was but nobody replied. Opened up and I saw Bela.
Wtf?, I just stood there in shock looking at her.

"Where have you been? You haven't answered any of my calls, and you haven't been in your room in days. Where have you been? We need to talk"

Okay? What was I to do? Invite her in?
Nope, too much drama lately. I didn't want extra, inviting your ex into you room is exactly that, asking for extra.

"Bela I don't know what this is about, but can't it wait? Or can't you call me later? I'm kinda busy at the moment"

If she was coming to remind me about Whitney, I'd rather not do that right now.
What she said next really changed everything.

"I knew she was going to do it, I knew she was going to commit suicide"

I could definitely make time for this.
I locked my door and we went out for a walk.
If she knew,it would change everything, at least for me, I wouldn't feel so guilty.
Wait if she knew, why hadn't she said anything?
After all, they were friends weren't they?

"Legend, I have nobody to talk to, it's not like you can just tell anyone what I'm about to tell you. I know what you feel right now so I know you're the only one I can talk to. I only hope you'll understand what happened, it's not my fault"

She started crying. I tried consoling her but it only made it worse.
We found a bench around and sat down.
It was a very long and complicated story, but the highlight was that a week before the suicide, Whitney had told Bela she wanted to die. She said she was fed up with life and that she didn't want to live anymore.
Bela had talked to her but hadn't really told anyone else even though she knew Whitney had the tendency to do crazy things
She felt guilty, and  she couldn't tell anyone cause she was afraid they'll blame her.

There was no way she could have known Whitney was serious. Maybe trying to get her to go to counselors would have helped but it wasn't her fault. Was it?
Gene called, I picked up and told her I'd call her back in a few minutes.
After the phone call, Bela just sat there in silence, I was thinking about what to say when she hit me with a question out of the blue.

"Do you love her? Do you really love her?"
