Chapter 2: Police Station

It was 9:30, and the end of the night for Steve and Bucky, or so they thought. Both men were about to clock out for the evening when Fury, the captain of the station, walked over to the two of them.

"I hope you didn't have plans," fury handed a paper to steve, "we have a kidnapping. The victims brother was beat to hell and shot trying to save his sister."

"Who's the Vic?" Asked Bucky.

Fury looked towards Bucky, "Loral Stark. Tony stark was rushed to emergency at SHIELD hospital. I want you two to go there and interview him. Get it done, so we can get this son of a bitch."

Steve nodded his head, "yes sir." Steve and Bucky grabbed their badges, and guns then left to the hospital.

---SHIELD HOSPITAL---
Steve and Bucky walked up to a nurse. Steve said, "I'm Detective Rogers," Steve showed the nurse his badge, "and this is my partner Detective Barnes. Were here about Tony Stark. Is he available for questioning?"

The nurse looked down, "he's in a coma detective. I'm sorry. The men who did that to him were brutal."

"Can you tell us about his injuries?" Asked Bucky.

The nurse nodded her head, "well, for started, he was shot twice by a nine mil. First went through his shoulder. Second entered his lower stomach. Mr. Stark went into surgery right when he got here. That was about 2o minutes ago. As for his other injuries he has 3 fractured ribs on his left side, and 2 ribs on his right that were broken in two or more places. His left hand was stomped so hard that it shattered the bones in his pointer finger and thumb. He has two fractured wrists, most likely from trying to defend himself, a broken collar bone. Mr. Stark has also suffered damage to his prefrontal cortex."

"What does that mean?" Asked Steve.

The nurse said, "the damage was so surviver. If Mr. Stark makes it out of this surgery and wakes up then he could possibly have permanent memory loss. It's still hard to say. All patients are different."

Steve said, "thank you nurse. I must ask one last question," the nurse nodded her head, "can we see him. Our captains going to want to know we laid eyes on Mr. Stark."

She shook her head, "he's still in surgery. Do you have a business card or number I can call you at for when he gets out?" Steve handed her his card the. She continued, "I'm sorry detectives but I must get back to work." Bucky said, "of course. Thank you for your time."

--- WAITING ROOM ---
Steve and Bucky walked into The waiting room to find a redhead in tears. She was the only one in the room.

Steve said, "Ms.?" as he walked over to her with Bucky. The red head turned toward the two then Steve continued "I'm detective rogers," Steve showed the red head his badge, "and this is my partner detective Barnes. Do you mind if we ask you a few questions?" The red was shook her head no.

Bucky said, "Well, how about we start with a name"

The red head said, "I am pepper Potts. Detective what happened to him? The nurses wouldn't say anything to me"

Steve looked down, "his sister was kidnapped. This happened when Mr. Stark tried to save his sister."

"God," pepper was trying to compose herself, "he grew up fast after their parents died. This would destroy Tony if he woke up and saw his sister was gone."

Steve said, "And your relation to Mr. Stark?"

Pepper looked at steve, "I'm his secretary, and probably the only other family he has."

"Is there anyone out there who would want to hurt him?"

"Just his competitor Justin hammer, but I don't think hammer would go this far to kill him."

"Thank you Ms Potts," Bucky pulled out his business card, "if you can think of anything else, then call me." pepper took the card and nodded her head before returning to the station.

---police station---

The two were sitting at their desk. Bucky said, "I'm just saying, you should get back out there Steve and meet new people. After Carter died things went down hill for you."

Steve looked up from doing his paper work, "I know."

Bucky said, "I'm worried about you brother.

"I'm fine buck, I can get by on my own."

Bucky said, "the thing is, you don't have to," Bucky smiled, "I'm with you till the end of the line, pal." Steve smiled, "till the end of the line."
