Invincible ~Shoto Todoroki x Reader~

「Chapter Ten」

Nervous sweat dripped down Y/n's face as All Might put the medal around her neck. She fortunately got a bandage over her eye, but mainly because the area around it had gotten burned. She was a nervous wreck as she waved to the crowd along with Todoroki and Tokoyami, everyone cheering.

Y/n spotted her family, but her mother had an extremely worried look on her face. She seemed hesitant, as if there was something she desperately wanted to say. Y/n looked away, trying to enjoy her prideful moment of her victory.

Y/n rushed to the Girl's Locker Room, quickly unchanging out of her uniform.

"That was awesome, Y/n!" Mina slapped her back rather harshly, making her let out of a huff.

"Thank you." Y/n said, letting out a breath as she smiled. She waited for a couple seconds to see if anyone would bring up anything, but alas, no one did.

She was suddenly pulled away by her sister, pulling her aside to the showers and talking quietly.

"Why did you let it take control of you like that?!"

"I had no choice!" Y/n said, "I wasn't going to lose to him."

Momo sighed stressfully, "And mom's been acting all weird since you fought Todoroki. I think you should talk to her."

Y/n's shoulders tensed, "What do you think she's gonna say?"

Momo eyed her twin, "Probably something we all want to know.. The story behind your power."

Y/n took off her medal and placed it on her dresser, slipping on a hoodie afterwards. Lady was sleeping, her wing over her left eye. She could hear a knock at her door, causing her to turn around.

"Mother?" Y/n's voice cracked, suddenly scared and confused about what her mother was going to say.

"Y/n, there's.. something I need to tell you that I should have told you sooner." She fixed her shirt, "But I don't think you're going to believe me."

"At this point I'll take anything. What is it?" Her mother sat down on Y/n's bed while she stood by her dresser.

She looked up and took a breath, "After I gave birth to Tanako, I tried for years to have children but I couldn't. When I found out I was pregnant, I wished so hard for twins. I went to the beach one night and.. I was approached by these.. creatures. They said they'd grant me twins but when I gave birth, I'd have to make a deal with them."

Y/n looked at her mother a bit strangely, "What deal..?"

"Well.. When I gave birth, I did everything I could to stay away from the ocean or any big body of water really. And when you got your Quirk when you were four, your father and I were extremely off put by it. It was nothing like ours or Momo's. We immediately knew that those creatures were behind this. My fear kept me from going to the ocean and this was my price to pay. However, it didn't end there. A couple years later, I eventually went back and they were furious. So they cursed you with.. this."

Y/n was speechless, not sure whether or not to believe this story. She looked over to Lady, who was now awake.

"Y/n.. I've been around since you were a baby. This story.. is just that. A story. I think your mom is seriously ill."

Her eyes softened as she looked at her mother, "Um.. I think I.. need some time.." She stumbled out of her room and quickly got out of her house.

Y/n put her hood over her head, the Sports Festival being shown on the big screens around downtown. She leaned back against the park bench and closed her eyes, but was suddenly alarmed as she heard her name.

"Mom! Isn't that the girl from the sports festival?"

"Oh wow!"

People started to look over at Y/n, making her stand up and try to smile. She was suddenly bombarded with congratulations and questions, making her walk backwards and accidentally bumping into someone's back.

"Oh sorry-" They both said in unison, but Y/n froze as she was met face to face with Todoroki. They could both see that they were about to be trapped by a crowd, making Y/n groan and quickly pull him aside in run to a safe place as quickly as possible. She shoved him into an alley way and hid beside a trash bin.

Y/n hugged her knees to her chest and sighed, shaking her head, "Well this is just fun.."

Todoroki sat with his legs crossed next to her, wondering what to say if anything at all, "U-Um.."

She turned her head towards him, "Trouble with family?"

He blinked, his eyes slightly wide, "Yeah.. How'd you guess?"

"Hm." She shrugged, "Intuition maybe. Same thing here."

"Oh. I'm sorry."

"Don't be, it's just an unfortunate thing to deal with." Y/n chuckled.

Todoroki paused, "What happened while we were fighting?"

She gulped and turned her head forward, "What do you mean?"

"Your eye. It changed. What was that about? Is it part of your Quirk?"

"It's just some stupid thing I have to deal with. Don't look into it." She stood up and looked to see if it was clear, "I hope you're family situation gets better. I'll see you at school." She awkwardly smiled at him and took off.

Todoroki slowly stood back up and looked at where she had left. He felt a warm feeling his chest, but he quickly shook it off and went on his own way.
