"Ruby Jane, Rosé, you do know that you two are the only students in the entire class who failed your test," implied Ms. Go, his arms folded over her chest as she stared at us with those disapproving eyes of her.
The both of us had our heads hung down, shuffling our feet in embarrassment. She turned towards Rosè.
"Rosè, I know that you aren't the smartest student in the class, but you normally get above average grades. What happened?"
"Sorry ma'am, it's just that I'm struggling financially and with my part time job, I didn't have much time to study," she murmured in a small voice.
"Well, you'll have to find an alternative between your work and your studies because at this rate, you won't be able to graduate," she frowned, showing no compassion whatsoever. How could he be so cruel? Did she not just hear that rosé was struggling financially?
"Yes ma'am," whispered Rosé, squeezing her small hands.
I couldn't help but feel bad for her. I was used to failing so my grades didn't affect me as much, but she looked like she was seconds away from crying.
I quickly cleared my voice. "Ms. Go, I think that I'm the one who got the worst grade."
"Yes, I am aware," she grumbled, finally turning towards me. "Remind me, which school were you originally from?"
"Junjay high."
She raised her brows. "No wonder."
I twitched but bit my tongue, remembering how I wasn't supposed to talk back to the teachers and be on my "best behavior." My old school didn't have the best reputation and was located in the shady part of town, known to be the place where all the delinquents and future drug dealers went to.
I could have gone to a better high school since my grades in middle school were rather good, but I purposely chose to go to Junjay high.
But it came with it's consequences. I caught on bad habits which included sleeping in class and ditching most of them. It probably explained why I was so behind compared to the rest my classmates, apart from the fact that the majority of them were born prodigies.
"I'll do better the next time," I apologized half-heartedly, but Ms. Go didn't look convinced.
"I know that transferring to a new school isn't easy, but that isn't an excuse for you to get bad grades."
"I... I know."
"If you keep this up, then I'll have no other choice but to report you to the principal," he said grimly. My body stiffened, pursing my lips at the thought of being scolded by the principale, aka, my mom. "This is what we're going to do," said Ms. Go. "I will assign two students to help the both of you study for your redos so that you won't fail or get a humiliting grade like in some cases," she said, glancing towards me.
"Actually ma'am," said Rosé "Lalisa Manoban from class B already told me that she'd tutor me if I ever failed a test."
Ms. Go's face suddenly brightened up at the name.
"Ah, Ms. Manoban? I believe she comes second after Ms. Jisoo in the rankings, a brilliant student indeed," She grunted in approval. "Then I'll leave you in her hands, but I'm expecting greater things from you Rosé, I really am."
"I won't disappoint you again."
Ms. Go nodded.
"You may return to class now."
We both turned around to leave but Ms. Go called my name.
"Ruby jane, you stay here," she said, making me flinch. Rosé glanced towards me with a frown but I just gave her a small nod and smile. She hesitated at first but quickly scurried out of the office.
