After school, I went to the bookstore to buy some of the books that the teachers asked us to read for class. But after picking them out, I spent at least an hour or two in the comic and fantasy section before actually going home. By the time I left, the sky was already painted in scarlet and orange with splashes of navy blue. The autumn breeze made me shiver as I dug my hands into my jacket pockets for warmth.
I stopped in my steps as the pedestrian sign turned red. But my eyes slowly narrowed at a group of boys standing on the other side of the road. They were covered in piercings and tattoos, each with funny looking hair cuts while wearing the similar baggy clothes with holes the size of my fist. They had a speaker that played loud music, obviously disturbing the people standing around them and clearly not giving a damn.
But my eyes widened as I recognized one of them, quickly facing the ground in hopes that he didn't see me. I didn't recognize him at first since the last time I saw him, he didn't have a bright red mohawk.
Jongin used to be an old classmate who got expelled from school for vandalizing school property, sneaking in at night and using spray bottles to write and draw inappropriate things.
The pedestrian sign turned green and the people around me started to cross the road. It would have been too suspicious if I turned around and walked the other way, so I decided to keep my head down and follow the herd, praying that I'd get by without being noticed.
My body stiffened as I walked past them, letting a small sigh of relief once I got on the other side. But as I continued down my path, I heard Jongin call my name.
I ignored him and quickened my pace, praying that he wasn't following me.
"Jennie?" He repeated, definitely on my trail. I could hear the shuffling of their feet and their snickers.
Just keep walking jennie, just keep walking.
I turned around the next building, catching a quick glimpse of them from the corner of my eye.
1, 2, 3...6 of them?!
Not wanting to reveal my address, I ditched my usual path home and started to walk down an unfamiliar street.
I somehow ended up in a dark alley where the city lights reached dimly and I knew that I made a big mistake when I turned around the corner, reaching a dead end.
I gulped, turning around to taking another path, but jongin and his gang were already on the other side of the alley, blocking the only way out.
Just my luck.
"Jennie," exclaimed Jongin with a wide smile, casually walking towards me with opened arms. "I've been calling you for the past 10 minutes, it kind of hurt my feelings when you ignored me."
I glared at the malicious smile slithering up the corners of his wry lips.
"Oh," was all I answered.
"Aw, why so hostile? I just wanna talk ta 'ya! I missed you, y'know? Say, you've gotten more sexy since the last time I saw you," he mused, wrapping his fingers around my jaw and pulling my face towards his. His breath reeked of tobacco and weed, making my nose wrinkle.
I quickly pulled away from his grasp and took a step back.
"Don't touch me with those filthy hands," I growled bitterly. Who knows where they've been?
"C'mon Jennie, don't be like that. We used to be in the same school, don't 'cha remember?"
I stared at his crooked nose and smirked
"How could I forget the guy whose nose I broke?" I snorted. "Jobun, isn't it?"
While Jongin's face flared with anger, I could hear his friends snicker from behind. He snapped his head towards them and they immediately shut up, trying to keep a straight face. I held back an eye roll.
He was still so uncool.
"Jobum, Jubumo, Jununo , no, no, that's not it," I mused, pretending to be deep in thought. "Oh right, Jum! It's Jum, isn't it?"
Jongin, who obviously didn't like my sense of humor, roughly pushed me against the brick wall with a snarl. I looked at him with a raised brow.
"Come on now, I thought you just wanted to talk?" I chuckled half-heartedly.
"You haven't changed at all," he muttered. "You still think you're so-"
"Utterly beautiful? A genius? A total playgirl? Why yes, yes I do," I smiled, which just made him boil with even more anger. He raised his fist, hitting my right cheek before I could dodge, and the fact that he was wearing big metal rings didn't help at all, the copper tang of blood staining my taste buds.
"Now that's just playing dirty," I chuckled coldly. "I felt bad for breaking your nose since you already look so ugly, but it seems like I have no other choice but to do it-"
I clenched my fist, slamming it against his nose and hearing a loud "crack". He fell to the ground, howling in pain.
"Again," I grinned in satisfaction. Jongin's posse flickered their eyes from hanbin to me.
"What are you waiting for?! Get her!" He boomed, pinching his bleeding nostrils.
Now, I wasn't the strongest girl out there, but having been in a rather poor school where fighting was part of your daily routine, I guess you could say that I knew how to throw a punch or two.
I managed to take down two of them, but it wasn't long before the other three ganged up on me, beating me twice as hard. A gush of pain jolted in my stomach as one of them threw a punch, another giving me a hard kick in the shin before pushing me to the ground.
I yanked one of them by the ankle, the back of his head slamming against the hard cement and pounced on top of another who started to scream like a girl while I hung onto him like a koala, beating at his head.
I probably looked really stupid but I was doing the best I could.
Four pair of hands seized me and pulled me back onto the ground.
After that, I think I might have blacked out for a few seconds, because when I opened my eyes again, I couldn't move a single limb and all I could feel was a jarring pain that spread from head to toe.
"Hey, maybe we went a bit too far?" I heard one of them whisper.
"Tsk, it's fine. Look, he's waking up," I heard Hanbin say.
"She looks like she's about to piss her pants," smirked one of them, breathing out a puff of smoke right in my face which made me cough. Jongin picked me up by the collar, my head tilting slightly back as I slowly gained consciousness.
"You always act so tough," he spat. "But look at you now. You still think you can take me on? Who knows, maybe if you beg a little, I'll let you off easy."
I couldn't help but crack up.
"You, you really think that I'm, I'm scared of you?!" I cackled, involuntarily spitting blood on his face. "You're nothing but a coward who can't face me on your own! You act like you're the one who beat me up but sorry to break it to you, jongin, but it's the five other idiots standing behind you who did all the work. Talk about pathetic!"
I watched as his lips curled and knew right away that I was done for.
Oh jennie, you really don't know when to shut up, do you?
His hand bawled up into a fist as he raised it to a perfect angle that would most likely knock me out clea . I held my breath, waiting for him to hit me.

We all looked towards the sound that came from above, our eyes widening in shock.
