"So, does this mean we're like...a thing now?" Lyssa questioned me as we walked together to her locker, fingers intertwined. I smiled.
"Only if you want to be, i guess," I shrugged and laughed when she actually looked thoughtful.
Then she smiled brightly at me, asking, "One more thing. If we're gunna be together..." - a sharp intake of breath, and a satisfied smile - "...should we keep it on the DL? Or can we, y'know...go public?"
Now i was the one who looked thoughtful. Well, what did i have to lose? It's not like i was bent out of shape over people knowing. Then again, what about those homophobes around school...i looked at Lyssa, and my answer became clear in an instant.
"If anyone asks, we'll tell them. PDA is totally acceptable. After all, what do i have to be ashamed of? I'm with the most beautiful girl on this planet" - she blushed, how cute! - "and they're probably just jealous of me for having you anyways." I laughed and she kissed me on the cheek which just made me smile wider.
"You're awesome. Going from flaming homophobe to veteran gay in like, two seconds flat," she laughed, hugging me. "I was so scared, you know." I just nodded. That made sense.
"So, do you wanna come over to my place...after school today?" She looked up at me, hope sparking her eyes. I giggled and kissed her forehead.
"How could i ever say no to a face like that? It's way too adorable." She blushed again. This was fun!
"Awesome! I want you to meet the band, we're having practice in Hayden's garage today at four!" She pulled away and wrapped her hand in mine before continuing, "I want them to meet you so bad! They're, like, my best friends ever!"
"Who will i be meeting?" I asked, curiousity grabbing hold. Who were Lyssa's best friends? The people she spent her time with, and made her music with? That amazing music.
"Hayden plays bass," she counted off the fingers on her free hand, "Ev is the singer, but he plays a bit of guitar on the side." I thought of the screaming at the beginning of the song i'd heard. "Joey plays the drums, and our lead guitarist, Vince, just quit." She shrugged and sighed. "Joey's thinking of quitting, too. But we're all still friends, even if we don't play together. I still visit Vince at his cashier job at Denny's every Thursday night." She smiled and laughed.
"Do any of them go here?" I asked, letting go of her hand and wrapping my arm around her waist. I wonder if we accidentally passed her locker...and then i realized i didn't really care. What time was it? We were starting to pass people who stared.
Let them. I was too damn happy to give a shit.
"Ev and Hayden both do. I guess they're probably not in your classes, huh." She giggled and went on, "I'm trying to hook them up, 'cause Hayden totally has this crush on Ev. But he's too oblivious to notice. Plus i'm not sure how he feels about her...mixed signals." She crossed her eyes and stuck out her tongue. I laughed, and she smiled.
"...Well, well. Look at this," I heard a familiar voice say, sounding very pleased.
Me and Lyssa both looked up to see Jazz leaning against her own locker, watching us fondly. She thrust herself off and walked over to us. Then she turned to me.
"I knew it, i knew it! I'm never wrong!" She slapped me on the back with this big grin on her face. "I just knew you had this thing for her the moment i saw you two together!" She laughed and turned to Lyssa.
