I woke up while it was still dark outside, the crickets' chirping adamant outside the tent. I was cold, and it wasn't long before I realized why. Alex's warm body was no longer curled up against mine. He must've gotten up earlier. I stretched and got up, wrapping the thin blanket around me.
Sure, nobody was around, but I still didn't feel comfortable in my-er-naked form. Alexander and I had a bit of fun last night. I threw on some clothes and poked my head outside of the tent flap.
I saw his silhouette on a hill, sitting with his knees pulled up to his chest. I walked up to him with a grin. I rested my hands on his shoulders, making him jump a little before placing one of his hands on mine, stroking it. "When did you wake up?" I asked softly, squeezing my hands tight around his shoulders, massaging them. Alex sighed happily.
"Not too long ago," he answered. "I just wanted to watch the stars for a while." I sat down next to him, wrapping my arm around his back. He buried his face into the crook of my neck. I laid my head on top of his, glancing up at the clear night sky. "Know any constellations?" I inquired. He sat up quickly, a smile plastered on his face.
"Well, there's Orion," he said, pointing up at a group of stars, then moving my hand so I could have a clear view of it. "And Taurus," He moved his finger up north of Orion. "There's Cetus- wait, you know what the constellations are!" Alex said, bringing our hands down. I smirked, pulling him closer to me. "I do," I said. "I just love hearing your voice." I saw his face darken under the light of the full moon.
"You're lucky I love you." he muttered, laying his head back on my shoulder. I planted a kiss in his hair. Suddenly, I saw a streak cross the sky.
"Alex, look!" I said, nudging him. He sat up and tilted his head so he could see the stars. "I'm going to get an ache in my neck." he said after a moment. Alex laid down with one arm behind his head. I laid next to him, mirroring his position and interlocking our fingers.
So we laid there on the hill, watching occasional stars fly across the sky.
We were there for a while, until I noticed Alex start to doze off. I stood up and scooped him into my arms, carrying him back to our tent.
I set him down gently in our bunk and got in next to him, pulling the sheet up. It wasn't long before I felt my eyes start to flutter closed. "I love you." I whispered.
And I could've sworn I saw big violet eyes watching me as I drifted into sleep.
