Chapter 37: The Ones That Got Away

Hawks POV
As soon as Miria ran out the door, everyone's eyes were on her. This gave us our chance. I grabbed Shinji, carefully untied Toga and huddled us together. Almost immediately, one of Kurogiri's portals opened behind us. The 4 of us jumped in, with me holding Toga Junior. As everyone was focused on Miria, we quickly ran through the portal and were safely transported back to our base in the subway.

"Keigo, Touya, Tomura!!" Toga yelled, taking Shinji from me. "Lock the doors and get our first aid kit."

Realising the urgency of Shinji's quirk overuse, we all ran to help. Well except for Dabi.
"I'm going to find Miria!!" He called out before pretty much sprinting out the door.

Miria POV

"It doesn't change anything for you. You're still villains."

Those words raced in my head as I ran out the door of the classroom and down the hallways. I was looking desperately for a place to be alone. Finally, I found the doors that go outside to the training grounds. I sprinted to them and they opened automatically. Once I was alone on the training ground, I lay down in the middle, trying desperately to think of a way to help. No. I wasn't trying to help. I was trying to be normal. As I closed my eyes, I heard someone fall next to me, panting for air as if they had also been running.

"You run...." He panted. "Really goddamn fast."

It's Iida.

I shot up, looking at him and immediately tears formed in my eyes. Again.

"What are you doing here?"
"Followed you. I can't leave you alone."
"Aren't you scared of me?"
"Why would I be?" He looked utterly confused as I asked that question.
"Because I'm a villain. I literally hurt all of you. I kidnapped one of your team mates." I lay down again, looking up at the sky. The sun was just coming up. Sunrise is so pretty.

"You may be a villain yes, but you are still a human and you always will be. You also didn't have a choice. You're the daughter of 2 villains. What were you supposed to do?"

He lay down next to me and grabbed my hand to comfort me.

"And," Iida started. "It's never too late to turn your life around."

"What?" I responded softly. "You mean like come to UA and be a hero?"
"Yes. Although I don't think you're old enough to be at a high school."

"What about Shinji? And my parents? And my Aunt and uncles? I can't just leave them Iida."

"Why?" He questioned innocently. For a 16-year-old, you'd think he'd figure it out.

"Let me put it like this." I said gently. "If you hated being a hero so much you wanted to become a villain and I offered you a place in the League, would you be able to leave your parents and your teachers and all the friends you've made, even if you knew that it was the right thing to do?"
"Well..." He sighed. "No. I wouldn't do it. I'd rather hate my life than leave my family."

"You see my point?"

"Oh."

Dabi POV

Running as fast as I could back to UA High, I finally found Miria. She was laying down in the middle of the training grounds with some boy that has dark blue hair. I think that was Iida. I walked closer, not close enough so that she would see me, but close enough that I could hear the conversation.

"What about Shinji? And my parents? And my Aunt and uncles? I can't just leave them Iida."

That shocked me but also made me happy. He's trying to turn her into a hero but she doesn't wanna leave. I listened in to the conversation right up until the end, where Iida understood Miria's side of things. Then I heard a sentence that made me jump for joy and love my daughter more than I already do.

"What's the point of heroes if there aren't any villains?" Miria asked Iida. She sat up, spread her previously tucked away wings and flew up onto the wall surrounding UA and jumping down onto the other side.

"Come on Father!" She called, somehow knowing I had been listening in. "Let's go home."
