soon, a man with blue jeans and a hockey jacket that read the mighty ducks came walking towards us all.
"you must all be my new players. i am coach bombay. now i'd like to tell you how things are gonna plan out." he told us as he got straight into things.
"on monday evening the ducks will be arriving and we will all show up at the hockey rink and you shall show off your skills and pretty much be introduced to your new team."
"then you will be moved out of this hotel and into your dorms. breakfast, lunch, and dinner is free here and at your dorms. for the remaining time, you can rest or go and explore some of the city, just please be safe if you do so." he told us all. there was an awkward silence, but he spoke up once again.
"well i think you guys should talk to each other and get to know each other. i have things to do so see you on monday." and with that, coach bombay was gone.
we all looked at each other awkwardly and then i noticed one of them was sleeping.
"wake him up please." i said as i shook my head. the kid sitting next to him shook his arm and he immediately shot up.
"i'm here." he yelled out as he was now sitting up straight. julie and i looked at each other and just laughed at his remark.
for about another half hour we talked more and more getting to know each other. we mainly talked about hockey, where we were from, and some family things.
soon we became hungry and went over to the dining area to have some dinner.
ken was on my left talking to dwayne and dean was on my right, surprisingly being quiet. i decided to spike up a conversation since i was bored of just sitting there.
"so, chicago illinois. i have a few family members out there." i said to dean as i took a bite of my pasta.
"have you ever been out there?" he asked me. i shook my head. "i've always wanted to go but my parents never took me." i said as i was now facing towards him.
"i've never heard of the town louisville." he told me with a slight smirk. i laughed quietly.
"small town, only about 20,000 people live there." i told him. he gave a simple 'hm' and then carried on with eating his food.
a few minutes later, dean spoke up. "how long have you been playing hockey for?" he asked.
"about six years. and you?" i said as i now was finished with my food.
he took the last bite of his food and then spoke. "i've been playing ever since i was like 6. my dad said i've been tough ever since i came out the womb so he thought hockey would be a great sport for me. turned out it was!"
i laughed at how he explained things. he looked at me confused. "hey you've never seen me play, but you will soon." he said as the waiter came and took both of our plates.
for the next hour we talked mostly about home life. one by one everyone else had left to go rest since they were tired from their plane rides.
right now i was currently dying of laughter from one of dean's childhood story.
"i was dumb, tell me about it." he told me as he shook his head from disappointment. "but running around school with no pants on, c'mon!"
we now both were laughing. something inside of me felt like butterflies, but i simply ignored it.
after another hour of mainly laughing, i was starting to fall asleep in the chair i sat in.
"you need some sleep sweetheart." he told me as he was poking me in the arm.
i smiled at what he said. "we both do. it was nice meeting you dean." i told him as i now stood up and held out my hand for him to shake.
he looked up into my eyes and i looked down into his. a smile appeared on both of our faces.
"and it was lovely meeting you as well, sweetheart." he said as he winked at me.
as i walked out of the doors i said, "i have a name, it's bella!" i called out to him. he just nodded his head with one of his little smirks.
i made my way up to my room, with that small butterfly feeling still in my stomach.
i turned the key to open the door and quickly changed into night clothes since i was exhausted.
i laid down in bed staring out the window. the night sky was clear and all the stars were out, shining brighter than ever.
i smiled and soon i drifted into a deep, dreamless sleep.
