Song of the Chapter - Out of Love by Alessia Cara

VALERIE

I don't know what the fuck to do. I have Shawn's ex standing in front of me with the most outraged visage on her face. To be honest, I was terrified to see how this was going to end.

"Who are you? Where's Shawn?" Camila questions, stepping on her tiptoes to see if Shawn was behind me. After giving me 2 seconds to answer, she shoves past me and enters the condo without even asking. "Nevermind."

Shocked at her sudden outburst, I shut the door and followed her down the hallway towards Shawn's room. I was extremely surprised that Camila was acting this way. I've only read amazing things about her online and all over social media, so I wonder what's making her so angry?

Before Camila could fish Shawn out of his room, he meets her face to face in the hallway, and he instantly goes pale. I've never seen Shawn so scared, even on the day where he had to face his label without an album. Whatever happened between them must've ended badly.

"Camila, what the hell are you doing here?" Shawn questioned nervously.

Shawn's shaky voice didn't make Camila feel an ounce of sympathy for him. She didn't hesitate to shoot back at him. "You really thought you could just leave me like that you asshole!"

I felt awkward standing and watching their fight. I was out of place, but I had nowhere else to go. His condo was pretty open, and the farthest I could get was the guest bathroom.

As Camila accused Shawn of leaving her, I grew curious as to what went down all those months ago. It was something that caused Shawn to lose his outlook on life. Enough to pull him away from music. I would hate myself if I asked, but I'm sure she'll end up slipping it as their bantering continued on and on. How long is this going to last? I thought.

Camila catches me glaring at them both, and I didn't even notice that I was presenting my confusion in my facial expressions. She furrowed her eyebrows at me and slightly tilted her head to the side. She knew that I didn't know. She's definitely going to tell me.

"I assume you have no idea what he did to me," she began, but Shawn took a step towards her.

"Camila, don't. Please," Shawn begged in an attempt to hold whatever secret they had in the past. I saw the fear behind Shawn's eyes, as if finding out about his breakup would somehow ruin the bond we've developed over these past few days. Maybe it'd be best if I left and let them have their time to talk, but I wanted to be here for Shawn and back him up even though I barely had any say in this situation.

Not caring about Shawn's feelings, Camila looked me dead in the eyes. "Shawn left me out of nowhere. After being with me for 2 goddamn years, he left in the middle of the night and never came back. And you know what he left me? Nothing but a letter. A fucking letter!"

Why did Shawn leave her? There was definitely a reason, and I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision. I barely had the strength to ask him why he left her without context.

"You were cheating on me! I saw those photos, and you know it! You left every night for weeks and would sneak back in early in the morning, and you think I wouldn't find out?" Shawn exclaimed, backing himself up, but something still didn't make sense.

Camila shifted her attention back to Shawn and pointed a finger at him. "You have no right accusing me of things you know are false, Shawn! I told you that I was going to meet with him because I was helping him with his financial problems. We went through this months ago, and you still left!"
