Sirius' POV (Angela)
I sighed and watched Denver hurry inside without a proper goodbye. There she goes, running away. Again.
Shit... At this point, a simple hug would have been satisfying. What was her problem anyway?
I frowned as I realized I forgot to ask her for her number again. I made a mental note of doing that at the party.
I headed home, or should I say, my wolf den where I lived alone. It was not a den like a cave in the ground, it was a house on pack grounds, but it was mine and I liked it. Sure, it was unusual for a teenager like me to live all by himself, but I was no ordinary teenager, so that type of rule did not apply to me. Which meant I got to do whatever I wanted, fuck whoever I wanted.
Ultimate freedom.
My good mood turned sour when I saw Amoux waiting by the front door. He was a senior wolf who had been an advisor to my father, otherwise known as the late alpha.
"What the fuck do you want, Amoux?" I barked. I did not feel like dealing with his bullshit.
Amoux gruffly retorted, "With the absence of your parents, I am acting as your guardian, so you need to treat me with respect, son."
"Just get to the point. I've had a long day," I grumbled impatiently.
"Very well. As you already know, in a few months, the Wolf Moon will be out. October 31st to be exact," Amoux explained with a no nonsense look on his face.
"So what? Am I to sacrifice a virgin that night or something?" I sarcastically bit back at him.
"Cut the crap Sirius. You know damn well what that means. You are to choose your mate by then. If not a fated one then a worthy one of your choice."
"I have no intention of choosing one female for the rest of my life. That sounds rather suicidal," I replied with a smirk.
"Sirius, you are the alpha of the Night Walker Pack. Which means you need to lead your pack with dignity. It's your duty to..."
"FUCK DUTIES!" I cried. I was sick of all these ridiculous rules. I had not chosen my life.
"Lower your voice. The alpha of the Shadow Pack has already chosen his mate. Which means they might produce an heir before you. We can't let their pack become stronger than us," Amoux said thoughtfully.
The Shadow Pack was one of our biggest rivals. There was a pact between us that stated we were not to cross into each other's territories, or there would be blood. The pack's alpha was the biggest douche in history but lucky for me, he went to a different school.
"Think this through. It's time for you to stop messing around and take your duties more seriously. I'll take my leave now." With that Amoux got up and left.
Things were getting more serious than I had thought. I had never considered finding a mate to be essential. It was such a drag. But I also did not like the possibility of being outshone by the Shadow Pack's leader. Fucking Asher Grey. He thought he was better than me.
In his dreams.
Denver's face flashed into my brain all of a sudden. I wondered what she would think of all this. Would she be terrified once she found out I was a werewolf, or would that excite her? Only one way to find out.
Get her to sleep with me.
What if I made her my mate?
I laughed immediately after thinking about that. A human as the ultimate mate for the alpha? Luna of the Night Walker Pack. Amoux would have a heart attack for sure. Besides, she seemed like a bit too mouthy.
