Denver's POV (Alix)
I had no idea what had happened. One minute I was nobody, I had 3 people who knew my actual name and did not make fun of it. And suddenly I was the talk of the school.
The one who took down Sirius Storm.
I had not taken down jack shit. His sister had taken him down after he had taken me down. But leave it to drunk teenagers to only grasp a fraction of what was going on and run with it.
I had spent my Sunday tending my moral and physical hangover in blissful ignorance to what would meet me at school on Monday.
Recap time.
I had entered through the side door as usual on Monday. At first, I had no clue, but something felt off. Then I noticed how people stole glances and me, the murmuring and clusters of people huddling up whispering and pointing at me. With all that I was I had hoped I was imagining things.
I was not.
At lunch all hell broke loose. I was swarmed with people wanting me to sit with them, asking me questions about Sirius. The theories were many. We were having an affair. We had been secretly dating over the summer and I had dumped him publicly. I had punched his lights out. He had raped me. One even suggested I was pregnant, and he had been trying to run out on me.
Really?
Pregnant? At 17, with the greatest mand whore in Colorado. So like me. Not!
It had been chaos and none of it true.
Yep, that was the recap. All friggin' week. And Sirius had been nowhere to be seen.
I had a free period and had decided to go outside and sit under a tree off the side of the football field to get some peace. I only had one class more and then the week was over, and I could have 2 whole days to myself. 2 days of not being asked about Sirius' abs or how great a kisser he was, or any-fucking-thing Sirius related.
I was deep into reading To Kill a Mockingbird when my phone buzzed.
'Hi. Don't be mad. I got your number from Joshua. I just wanted to tell you that you looked absolutely beautiful at Tiffany's party.'
Unknown number.
Joshua? I hoped unicorns had more lives like cats because Joshua was a dead man. Giving my number to strangers at a party. Just no. I did not care how drunk he had been. Still no.
I was going to beat him like a unicorn piñata until rainbow-colored candy fell out of him!
What the hell was I supposed to reply to a message like that? 'How drunk were you at that party?'
'No more than most. I left early. From what I saw you were a little too busy to talk anyway.'
'If you knew me, you'd know I don't do talking well.'
'I'm the guy texting a girl he finds attractive. I think we both lost on the talking abilities.'I noticed people beginning to herd towards the main building. Free period was over, and I had to get to class.
'I have to get to class.' I wrote rather lamely.
Why was I even encouraging a conversation with a stranger?
'No problem. I'll text you later, if that's ok?'
'Ok. If you want to.'
'I do. And btw I don't believe the rumors about you or what happened at the party. Tell people to mind their business, I'm sure you know how to do that.'He was right about that.
Talking might not be my strong suit but telling people to piss off I should have a degree in. A lifetime of telling people to leave me alone should come in handy at some point in life, why not now?
Another text from him ticked in moments later. 'I'm Black if you were wondering. Have a great day, Denver. I'll text later.'
Black? At least he would know what it was like to have a shitty name. I smiled at that and gathered my things in my bag and headed to class. It was nice that a stranger did not believe all the rumors going around about Sirius and me. Worst of all Sirius was too chicken to even show up at school and face it with me.
More reason to hate on that smug testostemoron.
"How many did you give my number to at Tiffany's party?" I raged at Joshua cornering him in the hall by the lockers after class.
"Whoa whoa there, Thanatos. What did I do exactly?"
"You gave my number to some guy at the party and now he's texting me. What are you my dating pimp?"I stood there probably looking like a harbinger of death. I was ready to kill him, though if I had to have a creeper text me Black had done well. Not a dick pic in sight – so far.
"I swear I have no idea. I had a little too much to drink and was having a blast. Maybe I gave your number, I don't know for sure. I'm sorry. Block the guy or let me have his number and I'll let him know it was a mistake and he should back off?"
Ok, that was not what I wanted. Was it? Black had been nice. Outside of my friends he was the only one who had told me he did not believe me to be a slut like the rest of the school thought.
"I'll handle it," I scoffed backpaddling like a pro. "Just don't give my number to anybody else?"
Joshua really did not look like he had any idea what I was talking about and it was never my intention to rain havoc on him. It had just pissed me off momentarily. I should be feeling sorry for him. Apparently, when sobered up Xodiac had gone back to being mean to Joshua and acting even more disgusted with him.
I know alcohol had played a role at the party and in his behavior, but he could not be as homophobic as he let on when sober?
Joshua broke into a toothy smile and smoothed back his pink hair. "So birthdaygirl. Next week? What are we doing?"
"I don't know. I was thinking bowling alley and pizza with the misfits? It's not like my fosterfreaks will do anything but inform me that I'm old enough to move out and be released from their 'care'""Noooo! It's your 18th. Claude, Mischa and I want to throw you a real bash."
"Ok, but seriously no singing telegrams, no flash mobs, no drag shows, no strippers and definitely no karaoke."Joshua winked at me. "Done deal, I'll tell the others. Just keep Saturday free."
He had not heard anything but my 'ok'. Typically, him. Must have been the glitter in his ears or the showtunes in his head blocking out all rational words.
Hi y'all.
Thank you for reading.
So, there's a new player in the game. Hopefully Black can make Denver feel better about herself than Sirius. And with her birthday coming up, there could be some good fun waiting, at least Joshua is ready to go all out on the partying.
If you like it then pop a vote and maybe leave comments. I'd love to know what you think.
Give me a follow too for updates. I'd appreciate that.
Love Alix
