POV: Zen Teller

I sat in the shade as I waited on Nathan.  Practice was finished along with my book.  So out of boredom, I moved into the shade to pick at the grass at least.

It was the only form of entertainment for me now.

What had my life come to?  First I made out with a cute guy who literally fell into my arms and now I was waiting for him to shower so he can take me on our second date.  I had a boyfriend.

Those words were weird to say.

Surprisingly it was kinda nice.  I never dated anyone unless you count the time when I was eight and a redhead forced me into marriage with her.

It wasn't a great marriage.  I couldn't eat the cookies the girl's mother brought—the whole reason for the fictitious marriage.  So technically I'm still married.  Shit.  Does that mean I have to tell Nathan that now and we have to find a very specific divorce lawyer?

Two whole eternities later Nathan walked out smelling like lavender and back to the clothes he was wearing before practice.  Which were jeans, a plain maroon t-shirt, and black converse.

"Ready?" He questioned, throwing his backpack over his shoulder.

I jumped up brushing the grass family I was picking at off my pants.  "Depends, would you date someone who might still be married?"

"What?" He questioned with confusion.

I pulled his backpack off his shoulder as I walked to my car.  "Oh nothing, where are we going anyway?"

Without a comment about his bag, he followed me.  "I told you it's a surprise."

"You hate surprises," I deadpanned.

"That's not—I only hate them when other people are surprising me.  And you will like this one.  It's great."

I patted him on the back as he glared at me.  "What?  I thought I'd do it for you in case your arm got tired patting yourself on the back for this apparently epic date idea."

As much shit I was giving him for it I was a bit excited to see what he had planned.  I mean I would have been happy if we got popcorn and ate in my car while he talked about literally anything.

I put our backpacks in the backseat before getting in the car.  This time Nathan didn't hesitate to get in.

When we were out of the school parking lot which was when I realized I had no idea where I was going.  "Are you going to at least give me directions there or is this part of the surprise?"

He shook his head.  "I asked you out shouldn't I be the one driving you there?"

I shrugged.  "Want me to pull over, Sunshine?"

He rolled his eyes.  "Shut up.  Just take the next left and head to the out of town Arby's you'll see it."

I nodded and did as he said.

The drive was nice and I learned that Nathan had the worst taste in music.  There weren't any lyrics and it consisted of mainly the piano and violin.  We ended up agreeing on an indie playlist.

When we got to the Arby's I was told to go through the drive-thru instead which was totally fine by me.  I hated going in to sit at a table only to realize it was gross.

"What do you want?"

Without looking at the menu he answered.  "Number six, add bacon.  With large fries and a sweet tea."

I chuckled and ordered his first before looking for what I wanted.  I decided on the popcorn chicken.

When we got our food Nathan told me the directions for the next stop.  Or he tried to as he inhaled his hot fries.
