Musufatsu at night was creepy, I will admit. The strongest villains lurked in the dangerous neighborhoods. The sirens blared in and out, through the narrow streets. Tom cats knocked over trash can dumpsters and I could hear the drunks singing loudly outside of the next-door bar. I lived in a risky neighborhood, but I was thankful to have a home, I thought, watching the homeless snore on piles of cardboard.
"My first stop," I said, turning to Paper Doll and Exploder, as we walked down the dark alleys, "is to visit my mom." The streetlights glowed through the misty fog. A dog howled in the distance. I jumped, anxiously knowing that one false move could get me arrested again. I could tell that Paper Doll and Exploder were confused about why I wanted to see my mom after all these years, but they didn't question me. It was dangerous, especially when we were all escapees and extremely wanted criminals. I bit my lip, as we headed over to my childhood home.
How was I gonna explain this to her? I haven't seen her in more than a year. She doesn't know I am alive and I never wrote to her. Guilt overwhelmed me. She doesn't know I am responsible for so many crimes! She doesn't know her sweet son is a villain! She doesn't know I even have a quirk! I thought about my caring mother, who had sacrificed so much for my sake. I couldn't imagine waking up one morning and finding someone I love missing! And then never seeing them for months? How could I have done this to her?
I took a deep breath as we reached the house. My childhood home brought bittersweet memories. Playing with an All Might figurine in the pile of leaves, helping my mom carry groceries inside the house, riding my scooter up and down the very sidewalk I was walking on. Then I remembered the bitter memories. I thought of my mom and I coming back from the doctor's who told me I was quirkless. I remember her face when I asked her if I could ever be a hero. She wanted to break the news softly. I told Paper Doll and Exploder to wait by the fence to the front yard. I slowly walked up the sidewalk and reached the door. Suddenly getting nervous again, I hesitated. Then, before I could change my mind, I clenched my fists and knocked.
