~Amari's View~

"You promise you'll come home right after Mexico?"

"I promise," Mom smiles.

"Okay, see you tomorrow." I wave at her.

She waves back. "See you tomorrow."

I end the video call still smiling. Mom was gonna come home today but she had to make a quick turn to Mexico for a wedding. I'm super excited that she's coming home tomorrow. I can't wait to see her.

I almost topple off my chair when a notification pops up on my laptop screen. It reads, message from Luis Garcia. I quickly click on it.

Hi Amari. How do you know Sia and what is it about her that you want to talk about?

I take a deep breath and type in a response.

Umm, I don't know her... yet but I think we might be related.

I click send before adding, I'm not sure, but I really need your help.

Okay? What can I do to help?

I sigh in relief at his response. At least he's willing to help me.

Is there a way I can speak to her?

Oh, I'm sorry but that won't be possible.

I break my pencil at Luis' response causing the wood to prick my palm painfully. Why can't I speak to her? The chat heads show that he's still typing something. With crossed fingers, I eagerly wait for a positive response.

The response I get isn't positive and neither is it negative. I just don't know what to think of it. What's the meaning of Sia is getting married?

What!? I send. What do you mean by that?

She's the wife-to-be of a man called Yash Agrawal. They're getting married tomorrow.

I quickly search for Yash Agrawal on the internet and I'm met with a middle-aged man. He's some sort of business tycoon and oh my God, he's loaded.

That still doesn't give him the right to marry a girl twice his age.

That's so not right. How can that be happening? I send.

People like Yash have nothing to worry about. He's got money and power.

He's right about that. These people walk around getting everything they want whether it's right or wrong and no one says anything because they're rich. It's really bad that some people do that.

I wish there's a way to help you but there isn't. I can give you her phone number but I'm not sure if she's using her phone. You can have my number and I'll inform you when I hear from her. I'm sure we'll be meeting soon since our parents are working together.

Yeah, thanks for your help, Luis. I can't wait to see you in person.

Likewise. I'm sure Sia would also love to meet you.

I'd be honored to meet her too. Talk to you later Luis.

Bye, Amari.

Even though things didn't go as expected, I'm glad Luis and I talked because I wouldn't have stumbled upon the article displayed on my laptop screen.

"Oh my God!" I gasp. Tears begin to burn my eyes. Carrying my laptop I rush downstairs.
"Dad!" I shout. "I'm in the kitchen." He answers.
"Honey what's-" He begins but I cut him off.
"Is this true?" I place my laptop on the counter. "Amari, I-"
"Please tell me the truth dad," I say on the verge of shedding tears.
He runs his fingers through his hair in frustration and nods. "Yes, you had a sister."

"W-what happened to h-her?" I force out. "Amari, can we not talk about this right now?" Dad asks.
"You kept this from me all my life. I found out accidentally and now you want us to put it behind us? What were you thinking? That maybe I wouldn't find out? And that we'd live happily ever after? Dad, I'm old enough to know about what happened to our family before I learned how to talk. Now, with all due respect, I'll ask once and I expect you to tell me the truth. What happened to my sister?"

Dad tells me about my twin, Avisha, and everything that she went through in the first three months of her life.

"You and your sister were far apart. We weren't expecting you." Dad sighs. "Your mom and I thought it best to keep the past behind us. We wanted to tell you but we couldn't. We planned on telling you though. We're sorry for not telling you earlier but it was for your own good."

"The stuffed mouse mom always has, was it Avisha's favorite toy?"
"Yes, that was her favorite." Dad smiles. "Your sister hated dolls. She would always try to pull out the doll's hair and every time she realized she couldn't, she'd just toss it away with her tiny baby hands."
"That's cute." I chuckle. "How did she look like?"
"She looked like you, but she developed most of your mom's features. She had a pair of intimidating hazel dark eyes and the cutest smile. You remind your mom and me of her and thus, we want to keep you safe. We can't bear seeing another one of our children get hurt."
"I understand dad." I hug him tightly. "Thanks for telling me, I'm gonna go to my room now."
"Alright. You can keep this picture of her." Dad says handing me a picture of a cute baby girl. "Thank you." I pick up my laptop and leave to my room.

I stick the picture to my mirror and smile, placing a kiss on it. Someone knocks on my door. "Come in."
"Hey." I turn around to the owner of the voice, Wyatt. "Before you say anything, I want you to know I'm sorry. Not for leaving, but for leaving without an explanation." He says and I nod. He sighs and continues speaking. "Look, Amari, I like you, I really do, but I don't wanna rush things between us. I want us to be sure of the choices we make so that we don't regret them in the future. It's okay if you don't wanna talk to me, but please talk to Eloise, she's your sister. She didn't mean to hurt you." He says and leaves my room.

I'm about to go talk to Eloise when my phone vibrates. It's a message from Luis and he's got good news.
