While the boys talked things out in the common room- occasionally sharing shouts that leaked quietly through the walls- you sat at your desk, parchment unrolled and ready to write a lengthy explanation to your parents about your random appearance today.
You weren't sure where to start, but thought it best to avoid all mention of your Malfoy lover, including the fact that your marvellous gift was from him. It would not be most appreciated by them given his family reputation, and you knew better than to spill the secret of your relationship so soon after swearing to keep it private.
It was getting later and you were becoming hungrier and grumpier by the minute, listening in for any signs that the boys would be done fighting soon and everything could go back to normal. There was another shout, this time it was Blaise.
Placing your quill down you tip toed to the door of your dorm and pressed your ear against the dark wood. You were most certainly not an eves-dropper on your average day, but you were agitated and restless and really really hungry, and its still Christmas after-all.
Draco spoke first.
"You couldn't even begin to imagine what it's like"
"Don't give me that bullshit, it might work on y/n but that crap won't work on me"
"Will you ever just mind your own business?"
"It becomes my business when the life of my friend and her family are at stake- why can't you see that?"
"I would never ever let anyone hurt her"
"You're the one hurting her!"
"How dare you! I would protect her from anything- including my family, why the hell do you think I stayed here over Christmas?"
"I think you know what I think, mate. You stayed so you could bring her to your dad- what did he want? Information?"
"I stayed here to make sure he couldn't get her- as long as I'm here no one can touch her, I won't let them"
"But you still took her to your dad when he asked- your story doesn't add up, mate"
"I know! I know I did, I fucked up, it's like I couldn't say no. He's my father. I'm trying, I'm fucking trying okay"
"You don't have to live in that house anymore, you can always come to mine, you know that"
"I don't even know if I'm... allowed... to go back home anymore. They don't want me there"
You felt your legs wobble and your cheeks flush hot- you really wish you hadn't have listened, you really wish that you would've allowed that to be just between the two of them. You really wish you hadn't heard those words.
Was all this your fault? You feared to think about the amount of things he had been bottling up.
Your feet took you back to your bed, picking up your parchment and quill along the way then giving way beneath you as you reached the soft covers, planting your weight down to resume writing your letter. You had things to think about right now and you had promised to give them space, it only made sense to resume to your previous task. Your mind, however, was whirling at a thousand miles an hour.
All you wanted was to hold him in your arms and tell him how everything's going to be alright, that you'd make sure of it. Unfortunately you didn't want to lie to him, you loved him too much to do that.
Dear Mum and Dad,
Seeing you today was the best Christmas present I could ask for and I have an explanation as promised.
