Prompt: Aunt May is shot in front of Peter, his shame brings him to run away from everything until a while later when a certain Mr Stark finds him on top of a building, looking completely broken.

Peter parker has had heightened senses ever since the spider bite, it was a daunting factor of his powers but most the time it wasn't a bother. But now? All he can hear, feel or even think about is his heart beat racing faster than Tony's most expensive car.

"Peter Parker to room 23," the announcement called out, "Peter Parker to room 23".
He got up quietly, not wanting to disturb those around him who were either waiting to go see their loved ones or those at the desk needing medical attention.

He walked around the hospital, not paying attention to the workers staring at him confused as to why a fifteen year old kid was walking around looking more scared than a child at their parent's funeral.

The number '23' caught his eye so he ran towards it, shakily turning the handle before pausing to mentally prepare himself for what was going to be behind the door. "May?"
His head slowly turned towards the hospital bed and saw his beloved aunt may, so pale it looked like the life in her eyes was slowly being taken away.

It was torture for him to look her in the eyes but Peter put his emotions aside and did it anyway knowing someone needed to be there for her last breath.

"Hi, Petey," she whispered, a faulty smile appearing on her lips as she struggled to pull herself up to get a clearer view of the boy.
Peter noticed and quickly walked towards her, "Relax, may, please?" he muttered, knowing she would try and be strong for him.

He pulled himself up onto her bed and propped the upper half of his body onto the headboard. Peter closed his eyes and rested his head on her shoulder, taking in her comforting scent.

"How long left?" He asked, eyes still shut.
May ran her trembling hand through peter's soft hair, knowing how much the boy used to love the feeling as a child. "Let's not talk about that now, my love." She mumbled, face still pressed into his hair, "How was school?"

He sighed and snuggled deeper into her neck, slightly turning his body to may's direction so he was closer to her. "It's the same as always, they teach me stuff I already know, then they complain when I don't do the work even though there's no reason for me to do it because I learnt it all back in 5th grade."
She chuckles at the boys words, knowing how intelligent he was compared to his fellow classmates. "You're a smart boy, Peter."

He mutters a quiet 'I know' under his breath, being way too distracted by the situation May was in.

He looked to his right before seeing May asleep, she looked peaceful in her sleep.
It felt likes hours before a doctor came in, he didn't seem to notice Peter's presence until he clears his throat. The doctor looked up and and slightly blushed seeing the boy look at him with pleading eyes. "Mr Parker, I assume?"

Peter immediately nods and silently waits for the news. "I'm sorry, Peter but your aunt is in critical condition and I believe she is your only guardian as of now?" The boy's eyes slightly water but he swallows the lump in his throat remembering the promise he made to himself beforehand.

'Do not cry, no matter what. You need to be strong for aunt May. You have to be. It might be the last time you see her peter, do you really want May to remember you as the weak nephew who couldn't even look after himself properly without his precious aunt?'

The doctor gives him sympathetic eyes, knowing the boy was in a rough situation but carries on, "A couple of weeks ago, we asked your aunt to put down emergency contacts in case of, well, you know. We have a number here, do you recognise it?"

He hands peter the clipboard with the number and Peter immediately recognises it as Tony Stark's personal cellphone.

'Tony can't know about this. Remember what happened with Toomes? He probably thinks you're weak enough, imagine what he'd think if he found out you lost the only person who cared about you and your sad life. Imagine how angry he would be if he found out it was all your fault that May's going to die. You still want to tell him?'

Peter let out a breath he didn't know he was holding and looked at the sleeping woman next to him before saying "Aunt may, she had a best friend called um," The first name that popped up into his brain was "Mary, who passed away years ago. They were very close so when Mary died, May refused to believe it. Even now, she thinks Mary's still alive."
He stopped and paused to look at the doctors reaction, thinking he didn't believe a word, but the man was still looking at peter expecting him to carry on.

"It's her number, I know that because every night May still calls her hoping for an answer back but obviously she would never get one."

Peter mentally applauded himself, so thankful that he had a talent for lying.

"I'm so sorry about this, kid. I know it's hard but we have to call up some people from a nice care home, i'm sure they'd love to have you," he says with an attempt of a comforting smile but it only makes peter even more nervous.

"Please, is there really nothing you can do?" he asks, so close to getting on his knees and begging to man to save his aunt.

The doctor just shook his head, "I'm sorry." and with that, he left the room. Peter was guessing he left to go contact this so-called 'care home'.

He stopped and just thought about everything for a second.

'Queens isn't known for being the safest place for children so I doubt their care homes will be any good. May wants whats best for me and I know it's not going to be that but I can't go to tony, he'll see me as poor and weak. But what else could I do?'

"Run away, peter." The voice in his head says, louder than usual. "Go somewhere nobody will ever find you, that way you'll never be able to trouble a soul again"
