Sensory overloads were a common thing in the Stark household for Peter, it wasn't the first time Tony had experienced seeing the kid going through one. He even made a protocol for FRIDAY to go through with if he went into one with no one around, which always came in handy.
It was a simple process: Peter goes into a sensory overload, FRIDAY activates the protocol and alerts Tony while turning down the lights, Tony would then come in and take him to bed where the boy would lay for about a week before it would end. Basically like a period, without the blood and cramps and mood swings and hormones.
It was never a big problem for the two, easily getting through one together. But this time tony wasn't there, he was busy sorting out a bunch of misfit superheroes to go help the spider. And now? Peter was in his bedroom, with a massive purple lump on his head basically freezing to death.
"But it's so hot! Mr Stark, I'm convinced that you're just lying to me and I am actually laying in a pit of burning sand," He chuckled at the boys whines reminding him that even though his temperature felt off the charts, in reality the spider was scarily cold. Like Natasha-level cold.
"Really? Because the vitals FRIDAY's giving is telling me the complete opposite."
"Simple explanation, she's lying to you because she's planning to take over the world and to do that, you need to eliminate any threats. Obviously out of the two of us, you're the easier target but she probably just feels pity."
With a small scoff at the kid's completely childish theory, he carefully climbs into bed next to the boy but not going under the blanket with him. Instead just staying on the top of it seeing as he was going to leave as soon as the kid falls asleep.
"Now you, need to rest that silly head of yours and calm down with the star wars conspiracy theory shit." In the back of Tony's mind, he could basically hear Steve groaning language.
"Silly head? I'm at the top of my class, I'm so close to getting accepted into MIT and I helped build your latest suit - the fact that you would even suggest that I'm not smarter than most people, I am really offended."
"The papers they give you at that so-called 'school for academically gifted pupils' is unsurprisingly rather easy for a super-spider. That reminds me - I have your next set of homework; need it complete by next Friday, Underoos."
He groans at the man's words, remembering all the homework he gets from his school which he still hasn't done due to late night patrols. "But what's the point of them if school already gives me homework?"
"You could do that shi- stuff in three seconds flat. You need to be challenged, Peter. We don't wanna lose all that knowledge up there to star wars."
He scoffs saying, "Star wars is the most educational movie, and if you haven't watched it, then that's probably the reason why you're so-"
"So what?!"
"Nothing! Nothing!" He puts his hands up, as if he was trying to defend himself. Tony only shakes his head at the boy, with a fond look on his face.
"So why did you go into a sensory overload? I've got your cycle tracked on my phone, you aren't due to start until a couple of weeks," He asks turning fully around to the boy, who only rolls his eyes and leans in his head on the man's chest in response using him as a human bed.
"God, you make it sound like i'm on my period. Well for your information, I heard shouting. Scared me a bit."
Tony grimaces, running his hand through his hair remembering what the boy had to go through when his parents were still alive; Peter had told him how they'd always be fighting, even in the middle of the night. But he didn't remember what it was about since he was just a little baby.
"Oh god. I'm sorry kid, completely forget how it would effect you - things got pretty heated down there, I've got to admit." He chuckles and starts running his hand through the boy's soft hair, in a comforting manner. Peter leans into the touch and lets out a content sigh.
"Nah, 's ok, what happened though?"
Tony let out a sigh, knowing this would come to light sooner or later. So he told Peter the truth.
"Steve, he wants to fix things. Well, he tried to and it failed miserably."
Tony felt Peter slightly tense at the soldier's name, he guessed Peter was still not over the man being left for dead in Siberia.
"What do you want to do?" He asks, turning his neck and looking up at Tony, who stared off into the distance. "I don't know, kiddo. I guess we'll have to see how things go."
It was silent for a while after that, before Helen Cho came in and gave Peter the all clear to leave. The two both left the room and headed to Tony's floor. They passed the avengers common room and Peter caught a glimpse of the rogue Avengers gathered around a table.
They finally reached the penthouse, and sat down on the sofa preparing to watch a movie.
"Are they staying here, then?"
Peter finally broke the silence while Tony was picking out a good enough movie on Netflix
