Taken From Time (p-2)

"Right, so some wizard shows up through a magical portal and expects me to just follow through with everything he's saying? Am I going crazy or is this just plain stupid?"

Dr Strange sighs and leans on to nearest table, opposite from Tony. The atmosphere was tense considering they were two strangers to each other, one was in pyjamas and the other had a glow emitting from his body (or glowy wizard magic as Tony liked to call it.)

"Stark, I know you are in mourning but this isn't a mission you can pass onto your fellow avengers and take the credit for. Life or death situation here, I need you to choose. Life or death?"

"I'm sorry, I don't know if you know about this, but I am actually the joint CEO of probably THE biggest tech company in the entire world. Surely a man of my calibre would know if anything life-threatening, out of the ordinary happened." Strange walks up to him, they look each other dead in the eye as if challenging the other. Moments pass, and one them breaks.

"Can you put your goddamn ego aside for one minute and listen to me? This isn't your normal type of out of the ordinary, no. This isn't some robot made by an evil scientist fifty years ago, it could destroy the entire universe and you won't even take it seriously?"

Tony points a finger at him, digging it into his chest. "Why don't you tell me what the 'big threat' is, doc?"

Strange rubs his hands down the length of his face, "If I tell you what might happen, then I can assure you, it will not happen."

"Can't you just give it to me straight instead of giving fucking riddles?" His voice soon gets louder.

The doctor matched his tone and stood up taller, "You really want to destroy the future of this planet out of curiosity?"

Tony sighs and backs down, sliding into his chair and spinning it back round to his work. "So what was it that you needed me to do?"

Strange relaxed, knowing Tony was now at the same level as him, "This universe, this timeline, is the only one with an irregularity. I've seen most future events, and knowing that a universe like this exists is concerning. As the protector of the multiverses, I must fix it."

"And how do you intend to do that, doc?"

He walks to the table Tony is seated at and sits from across him, a look of certainty plastered onto his face.

"Your relationship with Peter Parker is different, you aren't close, you barely speak, far from the father/son relationship. And that, could tear the future apart."

"What do you mean could?"

Strange pinches the tip of his nose, starting to become aggravated at all the man's questions.

"I am not fully aware of our permanent future, only events leading up to it. And I can say your relationship with the boy, well- it will be the reason our universe still stands."

Tony looks confused, doubting the man for a second. Would the kid really be that important?

"Is that it? You're about to send me on some life-threatening mission and that's all you give me?"

"That is all I can give you."

Tony looks the man in the eyes, trying to find some sort of emotion. Pity, concern, maybe even anger? But there was nothing, just a blank face he managed to hold the entire time.

So he sighed, and stood up.

"I'll do it."

"So how long back are you going to take me?"

Tony was turned around from the doctor, preparing his nanotech for the journey.

Strange laughed though it held no humour, just an empty chuckle. "I'm not taking you, but my estimate would be around one month."

"So, would me from a month ago be there? Because I don't want to change the past only to come back here and find an alien spaceship attack us."

"You will be replacing your past self. So you will have to take on his duties, while trying to build your relationship with the boy back up."

Tony nodded and pulled his sleeves up, getting ready as the doctor began to open a portal using a metal object around his finger resembling a ring. "Remember, you have a week. Once you leave, the memories you had with the boy will be taken by past Tony Stark. So he will most likely become closer with Peter when you leave."
