As the following three days have passed, (y/n) had developed a fever after regaining her powers. Max, who suggested (y/n) to stay in Plumber base, just to keep an eye on her and her health, seeing as her body was adjusting to the earth's atmosphere again. The older man wasn't around now, but coordinated a search for her missing mother, as soon as they came back days ago.
With flushed red cheeks, a cold, damp towel on her forehead, and a Ship, nuzzling (y/n)'s side, Rook stood right by her, trying to understand the thermometer he currently held, close to his face.
"What does it say?" You muttered, adjusting your position on the purple couch.
"Approximately 100.6° F."
"Ah." You laid back, understanding, "I just keep getting worst, each day, huh?"
"Is it normal for earthlings, but in your case-" the taller Plumber stopped, referring to you as being a hybrid, "Is it normal to feel this way?"
"Yeah, don't worry about it." You waved his worry away, turning to face the couch itself. "I missed a couple of days of school when I was younger, during winter seasons, I would end up like this all the time." The girl finished, with a shiver, before feeling new warmth, being gently place on her sick form. She turned to see Rook I placed a blanket on her.
"Thank you."
The elevator was heard, as (y/n) laid on her back, Rook excused himself.
"Soooo...how are you feeling?" Ben casually asked, strolling in, hands in his pockets.
With your arms over your eyes, you mustered a small smile, "Pathetic."
"That's not what I meant."
"I know, sorry." (y/n) shivered, momentarily, causing Ship to curl further to her side, as (y/n) smiled down at the Galvanic Mechamorph, "Yeah, yeah, I missed you too."
An uncomfortable silence filled the air between the two. Three days of no proper word exchange, other than shooting each other passing glances when the other was around.
"You did a number on that guy, you know?" The boy saw how (y/n) froze, he sighed in relief when he didn't mention Blayson's name out loud. From was told, after she was stable enough, Blayson was locked up, all black and blue, the last time she heard.
"...Good." the teenage girl turned away, "He deserves it. Now, I'm just playing the waiting game, and for mom to be brought back so this whole nightmare can be over already."
Instead of inviting himself to sit beside the sick girl, he sat on the floor beside her.
"What?" the girl questioned, "Can't handle a bunch of germs?"
"Yeah, no," Ben deadpanned, facing away, " I'm not getting sick because of you."
"Like you got me, a few years ago?" You muttered, staring into space, "You got sick during the road trip, and I got it soon after because of you!" as (y/n) finished, she ended up having a coughing fit, before sneezing.
"Because you couldn't keep your hands off me." He brushed off fact that her attempt at a laugh was fake.
"Oh, hahaha. You even used Gwen's blouse as a tissue too!"
Instead of having their usual silly talk and teasing, the conversation quickly dispatched and was reduced to awkwardness. (y/n) couldn't handle the atmosphere any longer.
