As Autumn slowly came to an end, we were met with the First Triwizard Task. I'd like to say nothing eventful happened for the most part, other than a first kiss with Fred Weasley. Classes were tedious as always, and Fred and I kept our distance. Nothing more than awkward stare downs if we'd meet each other in the halls. We had no idea what to say to each other, sure the kiss had meant nothing- but George was right, it was still a kiss. We were embarrassed.
However, Fred wouldn't be getting me down today. Everyone was in high spirits as we awaited the first task.
I sat next to Dean Thomas and Seamus Finngian in the front rows of the Gryffindor section of the first task. I would have much preferred to sit with George, but seeing as he was with Fred, I'd make do with where I was at the moment. I enjoyed Dean and Seamus's company anyway.
As we settled ourselves in I turned to the pair, "Care to place a bet?"
I know it's wrong, but I loved betting with others so I could practice using my seer's intuition. Of course, I wouldn't make the others bet too much, as I had quite an unfair advantage. It was still fun though, being able to use the gift I had for leisure.
"You're on!" Seamus grinned.
Dean, who had experience betting with me before, "No! I always lose when I bet against you. Why do you like doing it so much, anyway? You're already filthy rich."
"I don't do it for the money, Dean. I just think it's fun." This wasn't a lie, I just didn't tell him why I thought it was fun.
Seamus, who ignored Dean's warning, pulled out a few galleons from his pocket, "Five galleons that Cedric wins!"
I focused on the thought of the Champions each facing their own dragon. I had a feeling that Cedric was not going to do well, however as for Krum and Harry- I was feeling a bit more optimistic about the two of them.
"Five galleons that Krum wins." I said, shaking his hand. Dean looked at his friend nervously before focusing his attention on the enormous Swedish Short-Snout that had entered the stadium.
We watched anxiously as Cedric tried to steal a small golden egg from behind a dragon. By transfiguring a rock into a small dog, he was able to distract the dragon successfully. I began to doubt my intuition, watching him clutch the egg and hold it at the crowd victoriously. He had done quite a good job in the first task, maybe I was wrong.
Fortunately for me, but most unfortunately for Cedric, the dragon whipped around and blew fire at his face. I knew it was terrible of me to be happy because of this, but I was excited about the fact that I had predicted his downfall correctly. Besides, it wasn't like it was a major injury, a burn could be easily healed by Madame Pomfrey.
"Damn it!" I heard Seamus say as Cedric was taken off of the field.
The next few champions each battled their dragons with their own tactics, and to no surprise, Harry and Viktor had tied for first place.
Seamus groaned as he handed me his galleons, but I gave them back to him.
"No need for that, Seamus. This was all in good fun, I won't be needing your money."
"But that's how the game works- it's only fair."
But it really wasn't.
"Fine," I said, "Then I'd like to propose yet another bet. I bet you five galleons that I won't give this money back to you."
And before he could protest I shoved the money in his hands and ran away.
"Hey! You never gave me my money back when we bet!" I heard Dean shout as I left the stadium.
