Day nine, which also supposedly happened to be the day of the second Triwizard Task. I looked for Hermione and Ron everywhere, but it was no use. I guess I'd have to watch the task without them.
Instead, I sat next to Dean, Seamus, and Neville. They were engaged in a deep conversation about Wizarding Chess when I walked over to them.
"Hey!" Seamus said cheerfully, "Come over, there's a seat next to Neville."
"Hi Neville." I waved to the shivering student.
Seamus shook his head, "He's awfully nervous about this whole ordeal. We've been trying to convince him that nothing bad will happen."
"You don't know that!"
"I know that Dumbledore isn't a nitwit, and that he's made these tasks perfectly safe." Dean argued, to which Neville never replied.
"I never properly thanked you for stopping Moody that day." He said quietly, "It's just hard for me to see that curse used."
"I get it. It's frightening."
"Yeah."
Our short conversation was put to an end by Ludo Bagman, who was announcing that the task was about to begin.
"On my mark! Ready, set, go!"
Everyone cheered as the champions all dived into the water.
"Anyone want to bet?" Neville asked.
"No!" Dean and Seamus shouted in unison.
I laughed, meanwhile Neville looked at the three of us in utter confusion.
"So what exactly are the champions supposed to be doing? Is it a race?" I asked.
"Sort of," Dean answered, "There's people at the end of the lake. They've got to save them, and whoever finishes first wins."
"There are people in there?!"
"Course there are." He answered nonchalantly, "Ron, Hermione, Cho Chang, and Fleur's little sister I believe."
"Ron and Hermione?!"
"You're starting to sound like Neville."
"And I'm starting to understand his concern."
I watched the lake nervously, hoping for some sign of human life to come out of it. I couldn't believe it. Two of my closest friends were in there. I just wanted them to be safe.
After what seemed like decades a tiny head poked out of the lake, followed by another small head. From afar I recognized them to be Cho Chang and Cedric Diggory. Thank Merlin, two of them were fine. Only six more to go.
Soon enough Krum came out with Hermione in his arms. I let out a sigh of relief and cheered loudly.
Last was Harry Potter, holding Ron and a young blonde girl. Seeing as Fleur was disqualified from the task, Harry had taken initiative to save her sister for her, which was very brave of him to do.
Everyone applauded when they named Cedric and Harry as first and second place. It was certainly well deserved.
Once everyone was nice and settled the teachers began transporting us back to Hogwarts. As soon as I got back I ran over to Ron and Hermione and gave them each a tight hug. I even gave Harry one as well, even though we weren't well acquainted.
"You did amazingly, Harry!" I said to him.
"Trust me, it was all pure luck."
"And you, Ron, did I actually see Fleur Delacour give you a kiss on the cheek?"
