The young angel allowed his mate to drag him out of the church. He hoped his mate would stop acting funny. He didn't understand why he was being rude. Maybe it was a side effect of dying but his demon seemed completely fine when they were alone. Maybe Zion didn't like Father Thomas. Hopefully, that wasn't the case because Malak really wanted to trust him. But he didn't trust himself to know who to trust, even if Zion believed he could.

Zion decided to not interrupt his angel's wandering thoughts. He'd ask about it later to make sure he was okay. But for now, the demon knew he wasn't the best at pretending to like someone. Probably because he doesn't pretend at all. It wasn't like he cared about anyone's thoughts but Malak and maybe Saleos'. However, his behavior seemed to bother his angel. So, he'd have to talk to him about it later. Hopefully, the angel would understand.

"Well, honestly I thought both of you would take longer," a familiar voice said as the pair left the church. They were shocked to see the being in front of them. Why was he here? What'd Lucifer want?

Protectively, Zion stepped in front of his mate. His body towered over the small angel creating a barrier incase Lucifer did anything. Lucifer chuckled at the mates. They reminded him of someone he lost a long time ago. She was the only person he ever loved, and her death crushed him. However, the king of Hell lived with the guilt, knowing it was his fault she died.

"Don't worry, Zayne-"

"That's not my da-ng name!"

Lucifer rolled his eyes and continued, "As I was saying, Zayne, you don't have to worry about me. I'm not here to take your little mate. I'm here to help you with the saving the world thing."

Malak looked at the oldest demon curiously. Getting help from the king of Hell was kind of a big deal. But how could he help? There was no way he knew who and where all the horsemen were. That'd be too convenient.  There'd be no book if he did.

"How?" He softly inquired. The angel was inclined to trust Lucifer. There was just something about the demon. He seemed honest- even though he was supposedly evil. The older demon seemed like the type of being who would be upfront with what he's doing. Still, that didn't mean Malak should trust him. He learned his lesson before.

Both demons sensed the angel's inner conflict. They knew what happened to him and that it'd be a while before he was his old self. Zion missed his mate's cheery self. He missed how his angel was too trusting of people which always worried him. But now that Malak struggled to trust anyone, Zion was more worried about him.

Lucifer understood the Malak's struggle. After he was thrown out of Heaven, he had the same issue. His father didn't care that he was tricked by a darker force. All he cared was keeping Heaven pure even if it meant disowning his son. If his own father, God, could disown him without a second thought, everyone else would too. Thankfully, he managed to get over it. Mostly. The whole ordeal turned Lucifer into a misanthrope. But an honest one.

This is why Lucifer appreciated Malak trusting him enough to inquire more. Clearly, it was a tough choice for the angel. "I know a lot about the horsemen and I'm willing to tell you everything I know," he stated.

Before Zion could tell him they didn't need his help, Malak softly asked, "Why?"

"Because, Angel-" Zion possessively growled- "I like ruling Hell and if the world goes to shit, Hell will literally be set lose. I don't want that. You don't want that. Even God doesn't want that. So, we've got to work together."

"I don't trust this or you," Zion muttered, wrapping his arm around his mate's waist.

Malak wasn't sure what to think. His gut told him to trust Lucifer. Heck, even Zion trusted Lucifer before. The young angel wasn't sure what was different now. Maybe that meant Malak shouldn't trust him. Zion had a better judgement than he does. Sighing, Malak tried to figure out what he should do.
