Wynter's POV
A FEW MINUTES EARLIER
I woke up earlier than usual today. 7:13 to be precise.
The base is always so gloomy thus the reason for my regular boredom. Living underground wasn't the best option, I feel like Tallis really didn't think this through.
To compensate for the lack of entertainment here, I've been working on this Programme that could be revolutionary, but I just can't seem to get the code right. It feels as if there's a step I'm missing on the simulator or the modulation.
While I work on my main Programme, I multitask and observe surveillance, also doing some research of my own. While I was thinking of what the missing step could be, one of my surveillance monitors picked up some cars that were moving rapidly in this direction. A warning system locks itself into place on my computer.
At first, I thought they were having a street race because our highway is wide and doesn't have a lot of curves, but there were multiple dots that were moving at a rapid speed. All one after the other, in a straight line.
So I overwrite the code for the alarm and click enter for it to ring for everyone to know we'll have unwanted visitors. I try to look for any cars that I could use to slow whoever's coming down, but the only other car is 45 minutes away, these cars will be here in less than a third of that time.
The station's surveillance shows that the station has no customers. I was hoping to overwrite the car's system so I could drive it manually from here, problem is that I had never done that before so I'm kinda glad there were no cars.
"They found us" Tallis mutters in horror, which snaps me back into the real world.
I didn't notice him behind me so he gave me a bit of a fright, I have nothing to say that could possibly comfort him so I give him the quickest summary on our situation.
"Someone important is heading in our direction, guarded by 5 cars. Nothing that big can happen in the middle of nowhere" I'm typing as fast as I can trying to think of a solution.
"They really found us , b-but how?" he asks in utter devastation.
"Who do you think this could be?" I ask him, while typing on my keyboard.
"You know exactly who that is Wynter" Tallis leaves and I shout his name, hoping to get an answer to where he's going, but he doesn't answer.
He's right, I do know. For a split second, I wish that those cars would pass us, maybe my programmes are wrong, or what we're seeing is not right. Deep down I know, my programmes are never wrong.
I was scouring the web for the most dangerous men once, to avoid them at all costs of course and of course, on that list was Patrick Sylvester, one of the world's worst and most wanted criminal. He is heading in this direction at this very moment, one of the men I prayed never to come across in my entire life.
I had found out that an elite task force was assembled in Russia to stop him, but the police always 'lost' any leads that they have on him. It got so bad, that the agent's families started to get threatened, so the entire task force resigned.
Every. single. one of them.
Imagine how difficult that must've been. Usually some criminals steer away from children and women, but Patrick Sylvester is not one of them, which is why I'm shacking like a leaf.
I think of locking down the base so that no one goes in or out, but they will definitely send someone to guard the base. Then how long until they give up? How long before we run out of food? How long before we loose our minds?
