I wake up, getting the strong urge to pee as I quickly make my way to the toilet. A long sigh makes his way past my lips when the build up lets out. I finish my business and wash my hands, while looking at myself in the mirror.
Josh's shirt has a big drool stain just above my boobs. I cringe and take the shirt off, putting it on top of the counter. I unconsciously scratch my belly when it starts to itch. I look down at the skin to see stretch marks lining the place where my fingers make their mark.
I huff when I remember that I left the ointment that would help me prevent these, back at doctor Laine's mansion. I open the cabinet to my right, looking for a body lotion. When I find it, I splurt some of it on my hands, then moisturize my skin.
Probably not the best idea when I'm gonna wash again but it's only to delay the itch in the meantime.
Only then do I hear voices rising in disagreement when I exit the bathroom. Before I can change my mind, I'm already walking to the dining room, the entrance of the entire apartment.
"I will pay you the money as soon as I get it Ms Harley, you know I'm good for it" Josh seems to beg.
"Boy! You been telling me the same old shit for the past 6 days. Nigga, this yo last warning, or you out!"
The words come out before I can stop them "How much?" They both look at me.
A woman stands behind the door, her arms crossed and her expression angry. She looks younger she is, black people have the super power of not having any wrinkles, something Stella despises about them.
"500 left"
"I'll pay it" I offer looking at Josh, he seems ready to reject the offer so I look at the woman "Where can I find you?"
She looks at me disapprovingly, but I don't really care at this point "1st floor" then she leaves.
Josh slams the door and look at me with a murderous glare "You can pay me back, I was only trying to help" I put my hands up.
"What's with you? First you buy groceries and now you payin' my rent?"
I rush to answer "You were kind enough to help me without not knowing how much I already have. You were struggling but welcomed me into your home with open arms - even though I'm still technically a stranger"
"Josh, you have no idea what's happening to me right now, so your act of kindness really didn't go unnoticed by me. I didn't want you to keep me here just because I have money. I need people I can trust right now, so forgive me for the tests"
"I thought you were making fun of me with the groceries. When I saw my fridge full this morning, I was shocked, I really didn't think you were serious" he says and shakes his head.
"Think of me as a blessing and not a hand out, I hate those too" I try to smile but the look on his face makes this difficult.
Silence elapses between us.
"Josh?" I ask, hesitantly.
"Why do you look so scared?" He asks instead.
"I don't want you to kick me out. Please Josh, I have nowhere else to go?" He looks concerned now.
"Who are you running from Wynter?" He asks the question I've been avoiding.
"I-Its complicated, but some dangerous people... " I mutter the next part as quietly as I can "and the police"
"The police? Dammit Wynter!" he looks furious. I don't blame him "Why would you come here? Do you realise that you're dragging me down with you -"
