42. Mystery man

I'm in a field, a clearing to be specific. I look down at my clothes to see the same pyjamas I was wearing that night. I glance down at my shoes to see that I'm not wearing anything, my bare feet stand on the grass.

I hear a howl from behind me, I hurriedly look over my shoulder because of how close it sounded. I see golden eyes just floating in the middle of nowhere, staring at me in the forest from behind me.

I start to run from it, my feet hurting from the pebbles and sticks on the floor. I hear something thumping from behind me but I don't look back. I'll run faster if I don't.

"Wynter" a voice sings happily from behind me as the thumping disappears.

"Go away!" I scream as I run, coming near to another forest as I come across the end of the clearing.

"Everyone you love will deceive you" Patrick continues to sing "You will never be happy!"

Branches cut my skin from the impact of not being swatted away in time, stones leave a hollow puncture on my soles, mud covers my shirt and shorts as it starts to rain. I accidentally slip on a branch and fall on top of a log.

My left side stings as I land uncomfortably on the log "Stella deceived you, Annabelle will deceive you, Charlie will deceive you" he says excitedly.

I groan as I lift my body up by my arms, my right ankle throbbing with familiar pain from a sprain "Get out of my head! Leave me be!" I yelp when I see the golden eyes again from my side.

"Oh no, but I'm just getting started" he laughs. I look in the direction of where the voice comes from but there is nothing.

I lift myself up onto the log "No. You're not real! Get out of my fucking head!" A growl comes from behind me and I flinch.

Something starts to come out of the forest, golden eyes look at me as I turn around to see what it is.

"Wynter! Wake up" someone shakes me awake.

I gasp as I get up on the bed, sitting on my butt with my legs dangling on the side. I breathe heavily as I look around the room, looking for Patrick or any golden eyes. I sigh when all I see is Jacob looking at me weirdly.

"Nightmares" I say as I rub my eyes. I stretch my body as I jump off the bed. I look up into his eyes as I try to figure out why he's looking at me weirdly.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Have you told Luka about these nightmares?" I don't show my confusion at the question, what difference will he make?

"No, they don't call for concern" I shrug. I look at the cot to see Tallis still sleeping soundly.

"What are you doing here?" I ask before he can ask more questions.

"Oh, I wanted to see the little guy. We got close when you were out of it" he smiles.

I laugh "Oh, so you were the one taking care of him while Luka shied away?"

He nods, chuckling.

"Why is he so scared of him? He tried to explain it but I didn't understand"

He sighs, and rolls his eyes "He can be closed off sometimes and that's something coming from the person he grew up with" he shakes his head "I can't tell you why but if he told you anything, that's the start of something. You just gotta be patient with him"
