Fade stood in front of the principal office with tears in her eyes and her new uniform soaked with water. Her mind wanders back to what happened in the cafeteria and she started regretting while she chose here rather than stick to St. Afolabi where she's is appreciated.

She left class during recess and she walked to the cafeteria, she was told earlier that she has free access to food and she decided to take advantage of it. She asked for spaghetti and egg and she sat down on a table closer to the window while she enjoyed her meal.

A girl came to her and she told her to stand up from the table. If she had known, she would have stood up with what's left of her dignity and looked for another table but no, the ghetto side of her came out and she ignored the girl.

The girl slapped her and she returned her own too without wasting time and the girl started screaming profanities at her, her other friends held Fade's hand while she slapped her like three times. As if that wasn't enough, they took their bottled water and emptied the content on her while the whole school laughed at her humiliation.

She ran out of the place after those girls released her and she ran towards the principal office. She knocked the door and when the person told her to come in, she walked into the office while wet trails of water followed her.

She stood by a corner and even when the man told her to sit down she refused. When he finally looked up and he found her dripping with water, he asked what happened and she explained in tears. The man shook his head and he told her that some people in this school are above the law.   

The family girl that had poured water on Fade is one of the vital sponsors of her scholarship and her father owned 30% of the school shares.

The man brought a wrapped gift and he told her that its from the president of the school's governing board, Mrs Erica. She had given Fade a gift for passing high and she's highly impressed with her scores.

She unwrapped the gift and when an iPhone Xmas box stared back at her, she almost screamed. She had never owned a smartphone before and it looked like uncle Peter's phone. He had told her he bought it for almost two hundred and fifty thousand naira. Tears smart her eyes as she opened the other box to find an apple laptop. She had never owned anything this expensive and she was super grateful.

She asked of the person that sent her the gift so she can say thank you but the principal told her that she was in London presently am he would deliver her message that she's grateful.

She walked out of the office after discarding the wrapping paper and she carried her gadgets with extra care. When she walked into the class, it was rowdy, apparently they had no class for now.

Malik was the first to notice what she was carrying and everyone attention was turned on her. She prayed hard that they do not destroy the gadgets before she even started to use it.

"Since when dey start charity students laptop amd iPhone because they no give delight and this thing na cheating. Because she pass well well no mean say delight get two heads"

She ignored him and she sat down on her seat  while she made a mental note to unbox them when she gets home. When they asked where she got it. from, she told them the founder gave her as a gift for passing and Katerina snorted.

"Is this the first time y'all are seeing a Mac book and an iPhone X. something that's out of vogue, mine is 11 pro max and I'm changing I as soon as the 12 I order for is delivered"

The whole class laughed and gradually the attention shifted from her towards another thing. Delight stared at the gadgets in envy and Fade noticed it so she didn't sleep so delight won't steal it.

When the bell for closing sounded, Fade was out of her seat and she carried her bag and she walked out fast as if the principal will call her and ask her to return the stuffs.

When she got home, her mother was elated and she took them to uncle Peter's shop, he helped her set everything up and he helped her get a Sim card too.

When she got home, she met her father staring at the cartons that her sister was using to play and he didn't seem drunk. Fade's heart dropped in fear.

"Ekuule sir" she knelt down and she prepared to go inside with the laptop and phone when he called her back without answering her greeting.

"Fade, where you did you see money to buy this kind of expensive phone and laptop sef? Abi your mother is already giving you men to sleep with because she's a prostitute?"

"No sir, the school gave me sir"

"This things are cost oh, let's sell them and buy a cheaper one now. We will use the remaining money to eat. You know I dont have a job yet Or do you want everybody to be hungry while you carry an expensive phone around?"

She knew her father was trying to manipulate her brain like he always do to her mum after stealing her money.

"Daddy, they didn't dash me oh, everyday I must show our principal and any day they don't see it, they will come and arrest you sir"

"Why will they arrest me, was I the one they gave the phone to?"

"Because you're my father and you're supposed to make sure its safe"

"Abi you and the school authorities is mad. Better ask your mother very well, I'm not your father oh. She knows your father before they will arrest me because of phone. I'm going out abeg and I didn't see the phone at all oh. Let's know what we are doing oh"

Her father walked out and she released a breath she didn't know she was holding. she didn't expect him to give up that easily. She rushed to her room to explore her phone and she kept the laptop inside her wardrobe. she was only going to be taking it to school during ICT.
