He looked down, you were squeezing the paper cup and you had a small chunk of lip taken out. You hadn't seen Justin in years and hadn't expected to run into him at a nobody coffee shop, but here he was, standing in front of you staring at you with those big brown puppy-dog eyes. Despite it being years, somehow the interactions felt normal... natural even.

Your cheeks begin to flush, realizing he'd stares just a little too long he looks away, taking a sip out of his coffee.

You tap your foot on the pavement, it wasn't really rude to walk away from him, the interaction hadn't been planned, but yet it still somehow felt rude.

"What have you been up to for the last couple years?"

"I wrote a book, a self-help book. I started a podcast to help young adults, I took up yoga, i got engaged, and broke off the engagement, I wrote another book, that one being a yoga book." You were only slightly bragging, it doesn't matter to him, he's successful and married happily. It seemed he was happier without you in his life.

"y/n, I miss having you in my life.We grew apart, there was nothing more than that." He sipped thecoffee.

"I got busy, you stopped reaching out, I let it go. There was no bad blood, I sent you my book, you sent me your album, I invited you to my wedding and you invited me to yours. We just don't have time Justin." You shrug, it hurt to say it but it was true, you were both extremely successful constantly working on the next thing.

You could tell by the look on his face that he didn't want to admit you were right. "I'm so proud of you, you've found your person, you've found yourself again, I'm proud of you... you don't need me anymore. Friends come and go; we were brought together for the sole reason of helping one another get past a hard time." You take a step closer and kiss him lightly on the cheek.

"Thank you for everything you did for me. You will always be my person." You set the cup down on the nearby table and turn on your heels. It was time to end a friendship you spent the last years longing to have again. Both of you needed to move forward.

"Don't forget me, J" You look over your shoulder at him, his sad smile told more than one story.

"You mean the world to me y/n, I wish you so much happiness and success in your life. If by any chance you need anything, you know where to find me."

"You too." With that you take your leave, each stride larger than the next, afraid you'd begin to cry. It's time to move on, it's time to focus on whats important... myself.
