I had resulted to drowning my sorrows in funny YouTube videos and extremely greasy food while curling under my ramped up sheets; it was futile though, my head was still transfixed on the image of Holden's lips on the blonde.

Three stiff knocks knocks on the door resonated the whole room, ripping me out of the pity party I was staring in.

I didn't bother changing figuring it was probably Avery, seeing as she had already texted me that she was on her way. However when I opened the door it wasn't a sandy blonde haired girl standing outside the door but rather a tall dark haired brooding athlete.

Unfortunately he had changed out of his uniform and was now wearing grey joggers and a plain black shirt. He looked slightly disheveled like he had hurriedly got dressed, his dark hair falling into his eyes. I raised my eyes back to his face hesitantly as my heart began pounding relentlessly against my chest.

I got a sense of déjà vu as I watched Holden's eyes trailing down my body, undoubtedly lingering on my exposed legs. I was completely surprised by his presence outside my door, I had originally thought he would be at a club celebrating the win with the rest of the team probably with that girl, the bitter part of my head thought.

"Do you always open the door like this?" He asked while staring intently at my oversized shirt, the frown on his lips thinning more.

"I- I thought you were Avery" I mumbled, shuffling my feet awkwardly as his squinted eyes glared at the door, his chiseled jaw clenching harshly. Thick silence surrounded us, further increasing my nervousness.

"W- what are you doing here?" I broke the silence, gripping the door tighter to give me support.

"Could I at least come in?" his thick voice spoke softly, eying the small space between the door and me. I drew in a deep breath, exhaling before hesitantly opening the door wider to let him in. His walked past me into the room, his towering frame over shadowing the room, making it seem smaller than it actually was. His muscular shoulders grew rigid as he stood awkwardly in the space between the two beds, silently watching me shut the door.

"I...um...I wanted to explain what you saw earlier" he said, his steel eyes boring into mine intently as he scratched the nape of his neck. I  instantly grew tense at the mention of the the incident, my body heating up in embarrassment "I have no fucking clue who that girl was and I certainly had no intention of kissing her" he added while studied my face, watching for a reaction. I do admit it felt nice to know he wasn't equally invested in the kiss, but he didn't owe me an explanation, we were barely friends.

"Holden you don't really owe me an explanation" I murmured, voicing my thoughts as my eyes flew around the room, not wanting to meet his stare. Thin artistic fingers curled in his hair as I felt the heat of his stare through my clothes.

"Then why the fuck does it feel like I have to?!" he huffed in clear frustration, slowly stalking towards me a determined expression on his face. My ears rang as my heart drummed rapidly against my chest with every step he took closer to me. For the longest while what I felt wasn't fear, it was something else entirely, it was screaming raw lust. My whole body painfully yearned him but I had to at least try to protect my heart which I knew would surely be crushed if I handed it to him.

"Holden we- we can't" I muttered weakly backing up against the wall to create some distance between us. I immediately regretted my decision when his large palms settled on the spaces beside my head, successfully caging me against the wall. His head dipped to the crook of my neck, maintaining eye contact as his warm breath fanned across my sensitive skin leaving behind a wake of goosebumps.

"Why not?" he whispered huskily against the shell of my ear, further proceeding to placed a feather light kiss behind my ear. A foreign sound vibrated from the back of my throat before I clamped my mouth shut, embarrassed at the desperation in the moan.
