The rain trickled lightly, falling off the edge of the gazebo roof. The air felt thick and humid, like it usually did after a storm, but the wind still made it cold. It was an unusual atmosphere like it was yesterday, but it felt more eerie.
Olivia clenched her eyes shut as she began to wake up, feeling a sharp pain run through the back of her neck. She could feel her face against her knees, making her furrow her brows as she lifted her head up. A confusion flooded over her as she looked out at the vast field before her.
Her eyes glanced to the side, seeing a large lake; the rain causing little pulses in the water. Olivia shook her head, tracing her eyes over the gazebo she was sitting under. Where was she?
Last night almost felt like a blur to her after she ran off from Julie's house. She couldn't recall which directions she took, or how long she even walked for. Her feet just kept moving until she was overwhelmed with sadness and exhaustion.
She dropped her legs slowly from the bench, resting her hands lightly on the damp wood. She glanced around again, seeing a large building not too far from the gazebo she was under. There was an outside area, that looked to have a fire pit and pool, and just a few feet from there, it seemed there were tennis courts.
Olivia stood slowly; her eyes widening. She was at some sort of country club... and there weren't any near where Julie lived.
"Shit." She breathed out, shaking her head in disbelief. She never took herself to be much of a walker, but here she was, probably miles from home.
Her eyes widened, as she felt around for her phone: in her jean pockets, in her zip-up. Her head began to shake again as she felt everywhere, feeling the panic rise in her.
"No, no, no, no, no!" Her voice began to raise as the realization hit her. She was lost without a phone probably hours from home. Things couldn't have gone worse, could they?
No, fighting with Luke, getting smacked in the face, and running off to some unknown location wasn't enough. She had to have no way to get home. Great.
Olivia sighed heavily before walking out from under the gazebo. The rain began to mist onto her again, though she didn't really feel a difference. She was still pretty wet from last night.
She made her way across the grass, and onto the pavement, glancing at the building. She couldn't quite tell if going inside would be a smart decision on her behalf; she didn't want to make this a big deal. Plus, she was pretty sure she had a giant bruise on the side of her face. It was still throbbing, and as much as she tried to pretend it wasn't there, she had the events of last night spinning on repeat again.
Olivia bit her lip, turning away from the country club. She was just going to have to make it home on her own. It couldn't be that hard to remember how she got there, right? She had the memory of someone with hyperthymesia... well, that was an exaggeration, but you get the point.
She shoved her hands into her zip-up pockets, walking out into the empty parking lot. No one wanted to go swimming in the rain it seemed. The thought made her grin, but she quickly winced at the pain in her cheek, once again spinning that memory around her head. She no longer felt like grinning.
Her eyes looked gloomily at the sign just before the road. They drifted past the idiotic name to the location. 'Hollywood.'
"How bloody enlightening." She said sarcastically, shaking her head.
She slumped as she walked out onto the road, only have the hope of her memory kicking back in to guide her home.
