The whole month of November was comforting. I had my friends back and it was the longest time this whole year that wasn't spent on a rollercoaster. Lately, it seems that things with Draco were exactly that, a rollercoaster of emotions. But November was different, it was good, it was normal.
It was now December third and the day was dragging on as usual. I was sitting next to Draco in arithmancy learning something neither of us was paying attention to just waiting for the dinner bell to ring.
Draco and I were flipping through the textbook seeing how fast we could solve the problems in it until we reached the end. Well, the end of this book, we already finished the normal textbook, this one was for advanced arithmancy. Neither of us were placed in advanced arithmancy, though we should have been, because only sixth years can take it. It was something we complained about often, the other students in this class were idiotically dull.
This class and astronomy are my favorites because not only was I partnered with Draco in both, but also because I am incredibly good at them. So is Draco. This was also why the professor never cared much if we paid attention in this class, because no matter what we were both top of the class, right next to Hermione Granger.
Today was particularly boring because Goyle thought he would ask a question for the first time, it was dumb and now we're learning the last lesson all over again.
Just then I was thankfully sucked out of my thoughts by the dinner bell and we all hurried to the Great Hall.
We met up with Theo and Blaise on the way, who had just happened to be walking with Pansy as well. Not paying much attention to her I walked with everyone to the Slytherin table and sat down. We all ate talking about classes and my birthday which was coming up in exactly a week, December tenth to be exact.
"So, we're having a party right?" asked Theo.
"You don't have to, I just would like one," I answered, eating a mouthful of potatoes.
Blaise rolled his eyes. "So I guess that's a yes then." I nodded while scooping more mashed potatoes on my plate. I love mash potatoes.
When we got back to the common room I announced to the boys I had some homework I wanted to do without distractions. And then I headed up to my shared dorm room. No one was in there when I entered so I figured I would change out of my uniform before I started.
I headed into the closet to find something to wear when I heard footsteps and voices. It was Pansy and Daphne. I froze not knowing why but staying still and out of sight.
"I mean he can't really think I actually like him," It was Pansy's voice first.
Then it was Daphne's, "He's really daft if he does." They both laughed then she continued, "So you're really going through all that just to lock something down, I still don't understand. I thought you said he was an unbearable git?"
"He is, but my father said I had to make sure I had someone, he hasn't exactly gotten that many offers." So Pansy was just using Draco to make sure that she had a husband? Pureblood women who weren't married by the time they were 25 were basically outcasted by society. Most of them became "the other woman" when men weren't happy with their arranged marriages. It was never anything any lady wanted but some of them were just simply not attractive enough, an example being Pansy Parkinson. I almost felt bad for her thinking about all the offers waiting on that long list that my father keeps in his office, that is until I remembered that she was currently using my best friend and the person I fancy.
They both rummaged around a little more while they talked. Then once they found what they were looking for they left without ever knowing that I was hiding in the closet.
