It's been almost two weeks since Noah broke up with me and besides him giving me sorrowful looks from across the Great Hall at breakfast I never talked to him. We took our O.W.Ls, Umbridge disappeared, and we head home for summer in a few days. I truly wasn't all that upset. I realized that maybe I had small amounts of feelings for Noah, but they just weren't enough to cover the feelings I felt for Draco. It was also for the best that he dumped me because a day later my father owled me saying I would have never been allowed to marry him.
I still wasn't truly convinced that Draco was telling the truth when I asked him about the quidditch game. Blaise and Theo wouldn't tell me anything except, 'Keep asking him', meaning they know something I don't. But every time I ask him about it he gives me the same crap answer of, 'are you saying I'm lying?' or 'I don't appreciate being called a liar'. I decided I would ask him again, this being the sixth time I've asked, while we're reading in the library.
I watched as he silently turned the pages, every so often with the lick of his finger. I hadn't noticed I wasn't paying attention to my own book until he spoke, "Can I help you?" It was a joking tone, he's in a good mood that I'm about to ruin.
"What did you really say at that quidditch game, to Noah?"
He shut his book and crossed his right leg over his left knee. "For christ's sake, I already told you," he sighed.
"You and Noah have very different versions of the story."
He cracked his knuckles, the little gesture telling me that I made him nervous. Obviously, he wasn't aware that I had heard any side of this story. "What did he tell you?"
"That you said something bad about me." I was staring him down now, waiting for him to move and catch him in his lie. He's usually very good at lying, I've seen him do it to other people but never me. He doesn't usually ever lie to me.
He scoffed, "See, that's ridiculous I would never."
"So you don't recall saying something along the lines of 'I would always come crawling back to you'?" He gulped, visibly. I know he hates lying to me and maybe I wouldn't have been as mad as I am now if he would have just told me the first time he said it. "You lied to me! Why? Why would you say that?"
"Why is it a big deal?" he asked like it was nothing.
"Because you made it seem like I don't have a brain, like I follow you around like a lost kitten. I don't, we're friends obviously I enjoy hanging out with you."
"I didn't mean it like that." He couldn't look at me because I know it was killing him that he lied. I quickly got up out of my seat in the library and grabbed his wrist to drag him through the doors into the hallway. "Why did you pull me out here?" he hissed.
"So I could yell," I was yelling now, "How did you mean it then?"
"I-"
"Exactly."
He was angry now I could tell, "You didn't even give me a chance to explain."
"I don't need to, nothing you have to say can change what you said before," I fumed. "Noah was right you are a shitty friend, why did I even forgive you after basically this whole year you've been ignoring me. I should have known you would pull something like this."
"I didn't know he was going to break up with you over one little thing I said."
"Oh right okay, and I'm just supposed to believe that? You already lied to me once; you did this on purpose. You know you've been flirting with me a lot since that day, why? Were you jealous or something, jealous that I was in a relationship? It's not my fault your girlfriend was a psycho."
