"Vangie, are you even listening?" Blaise's voice sounded so far away and distant as the excitement of a new year buzzed around in my head.
"No, sorry. What are you saying?" I could only faintly hear him talking about the events of the Triwizard tournament last year. It didn't matter anyway because I wasn't really listening, I was too busy staring out the window at the speeding treeline indicating we were well on our way to the castle for another school year. Fifth-year will be eventful if the joking comments Theo is making are anyway near true.
If I know anything this year's problem will probably have something to do with the famous Harry Potter. I never really had a problem with him, meaning I never bullied him or Weasley and Granger like my friends did. You would think that being a pureblood I would care heavily about blood status but it was never anything I thought to be super important. Hermione and I would occasionally sit at the same table and read together in the library which I never thought to be a big deal. Though I can't say the same for the boys, especially Draco, however, I am aware of how they were brought up so their actions don't tend to bother me. With this being said I would never marry or bear the children of anyone less than a pureblood, not that I will have much of a choice when I'm older anyway. Arranged marriages are one of the many pureblood traditions that will never die. When I am of marrying age my parents will talk to other pureblood families and marry me away to someone who they feel worthy of having children with. I do have a slight idea of who I would like to spend the rest of my life with but like I said before I'm not given much of a choice.
"I have to be honest boys I was not listening to any of what you just said. Where's Draco?" I said, just not realizing we were missing our fourth member.
"You didn't even say hi to either of us when you sat down and yet you expect us to tell you where Draco is," said Theo raising his eyebrows at me.
"Hi Theo, Hi Blaise. So where's Draco?" Right as I finished my question the compartment door opened to Draco standing outside with Pansy Parkinson clinging to him. Theo, Blaise, and I exchanged confused looks as she sat down pulling Draco down next to her. "So is she gonna be here all the time now?" I whispered to Blaise as he got up to sit down next to me giving Draco and Pansy more room on the seat across from us.
Blaise shrugged as he took out a book to read, fully aware this would be a dreadful ride now that she was sharing the space with us. Seeing her pressed so closely to Draco made me angry for some reason. Maybe it's because he is my best friend and I don't like her or maybe it's because over the summer I realized I may have developed more than friends type feelings for him.
A few painful hours later of Theo making jokes to see how high pitched he could get Pansy to laugh, we were close to Hogwarts. "We should change into our robes, Pansy why don't you go first?" Glaring at me she grabbed her robes and headed to the bathroom. "So Pansy then?" I said trying to keep my tone from sounding annoyed.
"Yeah I don't know either, she just follows me around sometimes" answered Draco, only really looking at me. To ensure she didn't find us when she came back we all went our separate ways to change into our robes as the train pulled into the station.
The three boys and I walked to the carriages making sure to head off before Pansy could follow us. The castle was always beautiful, but it was extra pretty this time of year because it was going to be my home for the next many months. Last year wasn't as good as I was hoping due to the death of Cedric Diggory. Even though I barely knew him and we weren't friends I was still sad for him. That and mixed with the emotions of hearing the Dark Lord was back. Of course, no one else believed Harry when he said that he was back but deep down me, my friends, and pretty much the rest of the Slytherin house know he actually is back. Most of our parents, with the exception of mine and a couple of other people, are death eaters so they know first-hand everything that is going on with the Dark Lord. And even though a lot of our parents are powerful and rich doesn't mean that all of Slytherin house is bad; most of us get a bad rep due to Dumbledore's favoritism to the Gryffindor house.
As we headed into the great hall and over to the Slytherin table for the sorting ceremony and feast a certain black-haired girl was screaming for Draco to go and sit next to her. And to all our surprise he actually did. So reluctantly Blaise, Theo, and I seated ourselves around him. I hope she won't be with us all the time because I don't know if I can keep my dinner down with her constantly making crude comments in Draco's ear thinking we can't hear her. After Dumbledore's welcome back speech we ate talking about our summers even though we spent them mostly together.
Then after the sorting ceremony and the feast was over, we headed to the dungeons and into our common room welcoming the freshly sorted first years into the snake pit.
