Chapter 32

As our classes were finished, we all went to the hospital to visit Joowon and go on with our group study. Joowon was still sleeping, bandages on parts of his face and body, his bruises darker than yesterday. 

We were studying, asking each other some questions and discussing it. I'm glad a lot of us are learning too, I was surprised when Chanwook knew almost all of the topics. He really changed huh? in highschool, he wouldn't even care about his grades but right now, I'm really impressed.

I wanna grab a drink, I'm feeling a bit sleepy. So I went outside to find the vending machine and maybe get a can of coffee or a soda just to keep myself awake. I sighed as I realized that my back hurts up to my neck. While waiting for the vending machine to drop my drink, I leaned my head to the side to stretch my neck and noticed people passing by.

Oh...It's Seokjin together with that...female doctor again. Their backs were facing me, I guess they're having a break right now. Ah it feels so heavy. I can't really tell what they were talking about but he was smiling with her, they were having a conversation about something. Jin looks like he's really into it too.

My heart hurts...? 

Damn Junghee, it's just a fellow co-doctor. I'm sure she's one of Jin's friends...

Ahhhh I hate this. I hate feeling like this. Should I ask him about her? 

As I went back to Joowon's room, I noticed no one's sitting on the couch and the floor anymore. Where- 

"Junghee" Joowon called as he smiled while my friends were beside him. 

"Hey there, how are you feeling?" I happily went up to him to ruffle his hair, 

"I still feel like shit" He replied "Everything still hurts a bit but the pain killers are really helping a lot" 

"We were so worried about you" I said "can I ask...What happened?"

He gave me a soft smile "Sure. I'll just make it short so listen closely". We all looked at him, waiting for his story.

"Yesterday, when I went home, I saw my mom on the floor crying. She was beaten up and there were wasted food everywhere on the kitchen floor. Turns out that he was drunk again...That stupid guy was puffing on his cigarette when I reached out to my mom, he told me not to touch her or I'll get beaten up too. But I didn't listen and talked back to him, that's my mom for pete's sake, ofcourse I had to help her. I tried to carry her, but then he punched me until I was almost unconscious...I forced myself to stay awake so I can find the opportunity to get my mom and I out of that shit hole. When he went inside of his room, I carried my mom out to the neighbors and figured that I should call the police for myself. I could've told my neighbor to call but I was so pissed that I wanted to be seen so he'll be locked up in jail for sure. I was starting to lose consciousness... and that's when you guys found me" 

"I skipped my classes because I couldn't leave my mom alone with that fucker. You see, he was really really abusive but my mom won't leave him since she believed every single lie he said. He was a drunkard, a gambler, a smoker. He beats us up whenever he feels like it and it gets worse when he's drunk. I wanted to report everything to the officials, but my mom won't let me. That bastard manipulated her and even wanted her to throw me out of the house just so he can have her for himself. Maybe to keep her as a slave or something, but I won't let him have her. When Jiwon told me that my mom is in the other room, I was relieved"

"Dad still cares for the both of you" Jiwon said "and that bastard's locked up in a cell right now. Sooner or later, a hearing will be held and for sure you'll win the case. Dad said that he'll make sure to let him rot in jail" 

"Thank you guys" Joowon said as he leaned his head against the head rest. "I don't know what'll happen if you guys didn't find me"

"You're so strong" Jade said as he pat his shoulder "good job" 

Joowon softly chuckled and groaned right after "Oww, everything hurts when I chuckle" 

"By the way, can I join the group study? I'm sure I can catch up"

"Ofcourse you can, you're a smart kid" Taehyung said 

"Do you want anything? A snack? A drink?" Amy asked "We bought onigiris and your dad brought apples and oranges" 

"here" Chuanli said as he held the paper bag full of onigiris infront of Joowon's face. 

"That's a lot! You guys are eating all of that??" Joowon said 

"Eh? You can never have enough onigiris. Go on go on grab as much as you want" Chuanli replied while Jiwon started peeling an apple for Joowon.

"I think that's about it. We're done for today" Chanwook said as he pushed his glasses up. 

"Ahhhh we're finally doneee" Chuanli stretched his arms out. "My brain's beat" 

"Do you still have questions?" Chanwook chuckled as he looked up at Joowon. 

"No sir, everything's been answered" Joowon replied with a grin "Who knew you'd be really smart" 

"What's that supposed to mean???" Chanwook slightly raised his voice as we all laughed. "Do I really look dumb to you?"

"I mean..." Amy chuckled "not really but like...Maybe a little bit" 

"You nitwits" Chanwook rolled his eyes "Anyways my neck hurts, I wanna go home" 

"Yeah, I think you guys have to go now" Jiwon said "Thank you for today. I'll be staying here for a while"

"Yeah, thank you. I had fun" Joowon said

"ofcourse you did" Chanwook replied sarcastically "Ahhhh my throat's dry"

"Why do you keep on whining?" Chuanli replied as he placed his arm around Chanwook's shoulders. "Mine's dry too. Wanna kiss?"

"Come here" Chanwook chuckled as they jokingly leaned closer to each other's faces. 

"Well, we should get going now" I said "Rest well Joowon!" 

We all bid our goodbyes before we went outside the hospital and went to our own homes. Speaking of hospitals, I never told Jin what hospital I was going to...and he never asked about it either...
