Chapter Three
Adele's POV
I look at Antony in shock as he secretly carries the blonde girl through the doorway of the New York Institute.
He notices my presence and brings the girl to a spare room upstairs.
I follow him as he locks the door with his stele."By the angel, Antony Kier, what the hell are you doing bringing a Mundane into the Institute?"
He raises his eyebrows, smirking a faerie grin.
"As I recall, your mother brought a Mundane into the Institute when she was seventeen. And your father was alongside her."I cross my arms. "Uncle Simon is a Shadowhunter and Mom's parabatai. You don't even know her."
Antony shrugs. "I met her yesterday, remember?"
I roll my eyes, following him as he heads down the hall.He opens the door to his bedroom, only to find Rosalie, his twin, sprawled out on the bed, rereading the Codex and practising her rune drawing on a spare notebook.
Rosalie and Antony have a mix of qualities from their parents. Cristina gave them their Latino traits, Mark and Kieran gave them their faerie heritage, with the slightly pointy ears and weird coloured eyes.
Rosalie looks up.
"You kidnapped her?" She asks, standing. Her parabatai rune shimmers from her wrist as she points her butterfly knife at her twin's chest.
Antony nods, putting his hands up guiltily. "Luke gave me permission."
"Luke cannot give you permission to kidnap anyone!" I say, shutting the door behind me.Rosalie passes me the other butterfly blade, and I threaten him a little bit.
"We were having a capital time before you came in and ruined it, Antony," I say.
He shrugs.
"I think that you and Miach were excited to see me. You can't deny it. And quit speaking as they did in Charlotte's diaries. By the angel, Cassie should have kept them hidden from you."
I blush slightly, remembering the grand time we were having last night before Antony ruined it.(Last Night)
I had walked into the ballroom with my Mom and my Aunt Valentina.
It was decorated by Aunt Tessa, Uncle Jem, and Uncle Magnus to represent what it looked like during the early 1900s. Catarina and Lily had come to help earlier, but they had to go back to Hotel Dumort and the hospital later that night.Dad had quickly pulled Mom away, so they could talk to Uncle Simon and Aunt Izzy, and Grandma Jocelyn whisked Val away to chat with her.
My cousins Rafe and Max Lightwood-Bane had greeted me, taking me over to Rebecca and Georgia Lovelace, Lissa Ap Nudd and Rosalie Blackthorn Mendoza-Kingson, who were in a deep conversation.Everyone was dressed in outfits that Tessa and Magnus had designed a few nights ago.
Mine was teal silk, that went all the way to the floor. I had my black combat boots on underneath, but they were hidden from my mother. My seraph blades were in the soles, with my stele on my ankle.
"Care to dance?" Max asked, holding out his hand.
I nodded, taking it as Zachariah Carstairs, Atticus Blackthorn, and John Blackthorn-Herondale walked in.
Aunt Drusilla and Ash Morgenstern were the only others dancing, but as we walked into the middle area of the ballroom, Uncle Ty's voice started coming onto the speaker, and it became very crowded.
My cousins Mina Carstairs and Alessa Blackthorn took Ty and Kit's place and started playing a classic waltz on an old violin and a piano.Max put his hands on my waist, the blue overtone clashing against the turquoise.
I put my hands on his shoulders, and we started waltzing."You dance beautifully," Max says. "Who taught you?"
I pointed to Tessa, who's waltzing perfectly with Jem.
Max nodded. "It seems that immortals like myself are the only ones who can dance properly."
