Kai's POV

I woke up and did my daily routine I always do. Taking a shower and picking my clothes. I put on my clothes. You get the idea, right. I grabbed all my supplies needed for the class since I have it with Tessa. Doing one final check to make sure I got everything I was off.

I reach Tessa's door and knock waiting for Tessa to come. 2 minutes later she comes out and says, "Ready for the class together?" I nodded and we made our way to the building.

In Class

Entering the classroom I saw Zed and Molly the fake plastic dolly there. Tessa and I tried not to make ourselves noticeable, but I didn't give a fuck if they saw, so I flipped them off behind me. Tessa sits next to Landon while I sit behind them. Tessa said to him, "Hey." I wave to him as he said looking at us, "I'm glad I'm not the only freshmen in this class."

Tessa looks at me and said to him, "Oh, Kai isn't a freshman. This is their third year in a university. Her first year here." Landon looked at me in awe and asked, "What's her major?" As Tessa explained all my degrees to him, I was taking out my supplies. I heard Tessa say to Landon, "Yeah, I'm siked I got in."

The teacher enters and I listen to Professor Soto speak, "Alright folks let's get started. Jane Austen's masterpiece," I heard footsteps and turn to see Mr.Perv walk in. Wow. I smirk to myself  as I continue to listen, "Who here has already read 'Pride and Prejudice?"

I raise my hand with some of the other students including Tessa and Landon. Though Tessa knew I knew the book by heart. "...and what did you think of it on the first read?" Only Tessa, Landon, and me raised our hands to answer, but she said, "Let's hear it from our newcomer Mr.Scott?"

I laugh to myself quietly thinking this is going to be funny. Hardin said, "Pride and Prejudice? Elizabeth Bennet needs to chill. She gave Darcy a way worse than he deserved." Oh my gosh. This guy is something else and that's stupid. Professor Soto asked, "Are you saying Darcy did not love Elizabeth?"

Yup this is going to be a disaster. Mr.Perv said, "Love is just a transaction. We are all hardwired to desire. We present the correct set of desirable traits and boom, we can turn it on and we can turn it off." I was wrong, he is really really stupid. I hear Tessa say, "I think that it was the most revolutionary feminist novel I've ever read. That a woman of the era would have the strength to reject Darcy when he treated her poorly." I nod in agreement with her. That's my sister.

Of course, Hardin ruined it by saying, "That's a load. It's was Darcy's very attitude that attracted Elizabeth to him-" Tessa cut him off saying, "Darcy's attitude was rude and mocking. I think that he was lucky to be a woman with as much integrity as Elizabeth." Yes, Tessa, you show him up.

Hardin replied, "The only reason he even asked her to marry him was because she wouldn't stop throwing herself at him." Wow, he seriously said that. Tessa said, "Throwing herself at him? He was pursuing her." Hardin said, "She's clearly not satisfied with her life and is looking for excitement whenever she can get it."

Tessa said, "Well I think that it was obviously all in his head that she had any feelings for him at all." Wow. This was interesting to listen to and watch. Professor Soto said, "Well there you have it. That is the power of a good book." I raised my hand making Professor Soto called on me, "Yes, miss..." I replied, "It's Phoenix, also I believe the blame belongs to love. It's because love is a beautiful and tragic feeling to have in life. It can make us happy and give us reason to live with such joyful emotions. It can also make us sad and experience terrible pain making us feel we shouldn't live, but some choose to because they wonder what happened to that beautiful love. Love can make and break a person and also show their true colors. It can lead to happy endings and it can turn into a dangerous infatuation with someone. I say blame the love because it's our feelings and emotions that can act and it's their fault we get hurt."

Silence and shock filled this classroom as I finished Professor Soto snapped out of her daze. "Well thank you for that miss Phoenix...wait is your name, Kai Phoenix?" I nodded watching as her face turned into one of awe. She said, "I have heard a lot about you. You're a legend amongst the universities. It's a great honor to have such a talented young writer in my class. I love your work." I smile even though the embarrassment made me want to hide in my seat. Feeling such stares from the other students as whispers were heard in the room.

End of Class

I was walking out of the building talking to Landon when I saw Tessa and Hardin. I roll my eyes as me and Landon approach Tessa to see her fuming with rage. Landon asked her, "Hey do you want to go get some coffee with Kai and me?" Tessa replied, "How can someone be so arrogant? Oh, Elizabeth Bennet needs to chill. Like who even, who even says that."

I laugh at her Hardin impression as Landon is trying not to laugh, but kinda failing. Landon said, "That's just Hardin being Hardin." I block out their conversation when I heard Tessa say, "Yeah he's not gonna get one from me." I laugh as Landon said, "Hmmmm." I joined in saying, "Oh, of course." I didn't believe her.

At Tattoo Shop

Why did I agree to come here? I can't believe I gave up my precious time to watch a stupid person get a tattoo. Especially on her butt. I'm lucky I brought my sketchbook here with me. I didn't care about listening to their conversation knowing it was going to kill some of my brain cells. I look up seeing them laugh together made me think of the times, Alice, Sophie, and I would hang out together. I miss them.

I should probably call them tomorrow. I know Sophie is going to give me a long lecture on why haven't I called or texted. What can I say? I'm busy. I quickly type a message in our group chat instantly getting a reply. Soon the whole time I was there I was texting my two best friends.
