River

I bang on the door. "Open up!"

I hear footsteps on the other side before the scumbag himself opens the door. "Sheriff-"

"You're under arrest for domestic violence and accusation for multiple accounts of rape. I'm gonna politely ask you to PUT YOUR FUCKING HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK." I snap.

"I don't understand-"

I turn him around myself and handcuff him. "The fuck do you mean you don't understand?" I lead him to my car as he's at lost for words. "Pierson Hudgens ring a bell?" I put him in the backseat.

I get back in the drivers seat and begin my drive to the station.

"No." he replies.

"You have the right to remain silent, scumbag." I close the little window between him and I, rolling my eyes.

**

He's taken back to get his mugshots and whatnot so I go in the back, changing into a tank top and walking outside.

I walk over to my coworker, Maddox, leaning against his car.

"What a piece of shit."

I turn to him. "Yeah, he's acting fucking dumb like she doesn't know her."

"I absolutely hate the people we bring in

"I absolutely hate the people we bring in." he shakes his head.

"You and me both." I pull out my phone as I feel it buzz.

Pierson :
Hey! My mom wants to talk to you whenever you can

Me :
I can swing by after work? My shift ends in two hours

Pierson :
Perfect!

She then sends her address and I save it before placing my phone back in my pocket.

**

I knock on the door in which Pierson opens with a smile.

A different kind of smile.

She seems so much more relaxed and content ever since I told her we were childhood best friends that got split up.

"You're still in your uniform?" she chuckles adorably.

I nod and shrug.

"River... I really can't believe I didn't recognize you!" her mom, Clara, hugs me.

"I'm not three anymore." I laugh, hugging her back before we pull away. "I got a lil bigger!"

"You did! Wow you're unrecognizable! Shame on me!" she laughs. "You were always my buddy. Pierson and I took you everywhere with us and when we got ice cream, you always told us you wanted-"

"Vanilla ice cream with crushed oreos and gummy worms on the top!"

Clara and I say in unison.

We all share a laugh.

"I'm glad you're still into that! It's one of the things that made you, you!" she smiles and leads me inside where we sit on the couch. "Thank you so much for helping Pierson out, she told me what you're doing for her and we can't be more grateful!"

"I took it as a normal case, but once I read everything and once I realized why that last name with that name sounded so familiar, I knew I had to owe my childhood best friend this." I look at Pierson, causing her to smile.

Her mom smiles in awe. "I'm glad you still feel that way. You were always there for Pierson when you were toddlers. Always with her and always stood up for her. You made sure she never got in trouble by taking the blame."

"And I'm here now to get her justice." I respond.

"How could we ever repay you?" she begs.

I shake my head. "Don't worry about that. His court date is next week, will you be okay with going?" I turn to Pierson and notice her getting anxious and bouncing her leg as she chews her fingernails. I know her answer. "I'll sit with you. Whatever it takes, we need you, love. I'll be by your side."

She sighs and lightly nods. "Okay. I'll do it."

"Hey," I smirk and she looks at me "I got my k9, Cooper. He can be your emotional support dog next to you to pet and be with during this."

"Thank you." she sadly smiles.

"You two always made things work." Clara catches our attention. "You always worked together, like, if there was one chicken nugget left, neither of you were gonna eat it unless you did together. So, you'd split the nugget in half. If you were playing a game and you both wanted to have the same role, you compromised and switched off. You were always a great team and I'm happy to see you both still are."

I chuckle. "I was a cool kid. Even cooler now that I'm a cop."

"A smartass, seems like you didn't grow out of that." Clara laughs and I shrug.

"Nah."

We talk more just about the case and then later on talk about old times that I hardly remember, but it's cool to hear about them.

"I got a pocket got a pocket full of Sunshine." Cash sings quietly until he blasts the radio. "I GOT A POCKET GOT A POCKET FULL OF SUNSHINE! I GOT SOME BITCHES IN MY LIFE AND THEY ALL MINE!"

"Bro, shut the fuck up." I smack his head.

"Don't be a dick all your life."

"I'm not. I just had a long day at work and your screaming doesn't help. I'm sure Sophia is just as annoyed." I roll my eyes and Cash turns to his girlfriend.

"Well, he's gotta point." Sophia shrugs.

"I didn't necessarily ask for you to talk, I was just putting my two cents in." I shake my head.

She gasps and Cash rolls his eyes.

"Listen here! I've put up with your shit for two months now and you still h-"

"And you still haven't got the hint that I only talk to Cash, not much you." I pull into Cash's house. "Get out of my car. Go fuck or whatever you planned on doing."

"Okay asshole." Cash gets out of the car.

Sophia follows him, slamming the door.

I laugh to myself.

I love pissing that girl off so much.

My foot hits the gas and I happily pull out of his driveway and drive right back to my house.

Hah.

I remember having the biggest crush on Pierson.
