River and Pierson were childhood best friends until Pierson suddenly moved away, causing them to later on forget each other.
River is a loud, sarcastic, bossy, jerk police officer with tough love given. Pierson has a traumatizing past, leaving her...
I run towards the bridge and slowly stop. "You don't wanna do this." I put my hand out.
"Why not?! Nobody cares!" the woman cries. "I have no purpose here!"
"But you do!" I slowly walk a little closer. "You have so much to live for. You're still pretty young. You still have the whole world to see. Please don't do this. You're worth so much and we can get you help! Look, my girlfriend is the sweetest person you'll ever meet! She's always looking for people to become friends with, yeah? And I know the best therapist! We can help you, please just don't do it-"
"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!" she sobs, getting closer to the edge.
"I may not, so get down and help me understand." I get a tad closer.
More cops run up and I look down to see traffic blocked by fire trucks, cops, and ambulances.
"I want it all to end." she holds onto the bars to stand up.
"And it will! We can get you help and you'll be out of this dark place! What's your name?"
"I'll be much happier."
"Come here, look! You still have time to get married, have kids, see your grandkids,-"
"Please stop." she cries, standing up and inching her way closer.
"Hey, you can fight this-" I start slowly rushing my way towards her with my coworkers behind me.
"I cant-" she lets go.
"PLEASE NO!" I run after her, but she makes it before me.
Everything suddenly become blurry and numb.
I only hear ringing.
**
"Oh my gosh-" Pierson jumps into my arms, crying.
"River..." Cash and Sophia walk towards me.
"Sophia, you're pregnant. Please. Go." I wrap my arms securely around Pierson.
Cash turns to her. "He's right. You don't need to be around any of this right now."
"I wanna be there for him-"
"And he knows you are. Please?" Cash tilts his head.
I dig my head into the crook of Piersons neck, crying. "I tried. Clearly not my best."
"No River, please don't think like that! You tried your hardest and God knows that. You did everything and said everything to save that wonderful woman's life." she cries as well.
"I've never lost a person." I sob. "I always got them. ALWAYS!" I pull back. "Why the FUCK couldn't I help this woman?" I stressfully fun my fingers through my hair. "WHY?!"
"River, man, please relax..." Cash frowns. "Like Pierson said, you did everything. Not everyone outcome unfortunately will be the same-"
"I dedicate my life to saving people and helping people! I failed this one-"
"You didn't." Pierson takes my hands. "There's a plan for all of us. It hurts, I know and I'm sorry... every life is worthy and beautiful-"
"I tried telling her that! I told her I'd get her help-"
"I know you did! We're gonna get through this, together." she frowns, hugging me once again.
I break down and hug her back.
**
"I can't believe it..." mom walks over. "I can't believe you couldn't get her..."
"I tried. I promise you, I tried." I slowly blink.
"I remember your when your father was in a dark place... gosh. I got him out of that an-"
"-It must feel really nice for you to stand here judging me, surrounded by all the things that you've got out of life..." I snap.

"I'm not, River. I'm trying to tell you that it's not always gonna be easy-"
"You think I don't know that shit, mom?! You think I don't know that it all isnt just sunshine and rainbows?! You're being a piece of shit right now and quite frankly, I don't see a reason you had to come all the way down here just to shove it in my face that you can basically do better than me. YOU work my job daily! Some cases fucking tear you apart!" I shout.
"Hey..." Pierson walks in. "Everything okay?"
I scoff at the witch of my own mother. "Everything's fine. She was just leaving." I walk out of the room.
Pierson follows me and takes my hand. "I know it's hard for you right now, but you can push through and do it. You're strong and determined. Please love, for me?"
"I'm trying." I reply, pulling her into my chest. "Thank you for being here."
"I always will. Please don't beat yourself up over this. You did everything and you always will. You're forever so perfect." she nudges her head against my chest.
"The banquet is this weekend and you're obviously my date, sooo wanna say fuck it and get drunk?" I ask.
"And who's gonna be our designated driver?" she pulls back, raising an eyebrow.
"I mean... Sophia is pregnant so-"
She gasps. "You can't make her do that! But no, I'm not a big drinking. In fact, I don't drink."
"You'll be my designated driver." I pat her shoulder and she laughs. "I say we get out of here and watch a movie, yeah?"
"I'm down!" Pierson chirps with a huge smile. "Let's goooo. Plus, your mom makes me uncomfortable."
"You and me both." I take her hand and lead her outside.
We get into my truck and Pierson instantly hooks her phone to the bluetooth.
"Nana a boo boo!" she laughs and I playfully roll my eyes.
"Whatever."
We always arguing about who's gonna get the bluetooth, but I let her today.
I know she's stressed and I completely don't blame her. It's been a rough week for everyone and plus, she has the most calming music ever.
She starts playing our song.
Welcome Home by Radical Face.
I drive off and suddenly my exhaustion hits me.
I haven't slept in days since I keep reliving that moment, so Pierson got me an over the counter medicine to help with sleep and I took it way too early.
My eyelids start to feel heavy, making it hard to keel my eyes opened.
Almost home, River.
My eyes shut for a quick three seconds before I hear,
