"I gotcha, buddy." I stand up from my seat, laughing as I walk to the bag of dog food. I scoop it in a cup and place it in his bowl in which he waits for my cue to eat. I snap my fingers and he begins chowing down. "Good boy." I pet his head.

I walk back to my desk, closing my laptop with a sigh.

Froot loops...

I toss them in my cart, startling someone next to me, causing me to turn and see the same girl that- Pierson! That's it.

"S-sorry." she picks up the box she dropped, placing it in her cart.

"Don't worry about it, love. I'm working on your report." I stand tall, crossing my arms. She looks almost embarrassed the fact I basically said I read everything. "Don't worry, it was nothing new or interesting." I cockily wink.

"LET ME TALK TO THE MANAGER!"

A scream is heard throughout Walmart.

Pierson instantly cowers down, covering her ears and beginning to cry. My instinct kicks in.

You'd think it was to approach the lady screaming, but nah fam, I'm off work today.

I pull Pierson into my chest. "She's a psycho bitch, eh?" I laugh to make her feel better. "Seems like some Karen didn't take her medicine."

She slightly laughs.

"GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK!"

I feel Pierson move closer to me, shaking.

"She okay?" a guy in the aisle asks in concern.

I put my hand up to motion for him that it's okay, he can leave, but Pierson ends up flinching and squealing, trying to get out of my grip.

I let her go.

"Gee Pier, I was letting the man know it's okay." I laugh.

"I'm so sorry..." she looks down. "I should get going-"

"I wanna talk to you. Do you have time later today?" I ask.

She tries to form words. "Uh- I- yeah, but, I'm not good with being with new people-"

"I'm a cop, love. Consider me your friend." I wink. "We can have lunch, yeah? Pizza?"

"Sure." she replies.

I pull out my phone and we exchange numbers. "Does around twelve sound good?"

She nods. "Yeah."
