I nervously tap my fingers on the table.

"Pierson, baby, you need to stop stressing it." mon sits next to me.

A tear falls out of my eye. "I can't see his face again. I already have PTSD so seeing him is only gonna bring back things I don't want to be dug up."

"I know, but, it's over after that. We need to get through this court date and then you can live your life happy once again. You were always a bright, loving, happy girl until you got with him. He completely destroyed you and this is the only way to get you back." she replies. "You need to do this. River is gonna be right next to you and so will many others."

As if the universe knew I needed to not feel alone, my phone goes off.

"It's River..."

"Answer!!"

I chuckle and stand up, walking outside and answering the call.

"Hey..." I nervously say like an idiot.

"Hey love! My friend Cash, his girlfriend, and I are going to hang around today and I figured I'd ask if you wanted to come along. I could come pick you up?" he asks.

I try to form words. "I told you I'm not good with n- I mean, yes, sure." I gulp, not talking back.

"Pierson, talk back at me all you want. I'm not him. Tell me how it is and don't feel bad. If you don't want to go, just tell me!" he laughs. "Not hurting my feelings! Nothing hurts my feelings."

"I want to go... but I'm scared." I sigh.

"Come if you feel comfortable, but, don't feel pressured. They're good people and I'll be right by your side." he says in a comforting tone. "Until I get ahold of those mini cupcakes."

"There it is." I laugh and he laughs along. "Sure, I'll come."

"Okay cool. I'm gonna head that way now." he says.

"Okie dokie! See you then!"

"Deuces!"

"Bye!"

He hangs up and I quickly run inside to get ready.

I change out of my pajamas and throw on a sweater and my favorite pair of ripped jeans.

River doesn't live far from me so within ten minutes, he's already arrived and knocking on the door.

"Go get your handsome boy!" mom says like a gossip teenager.

"Mooooom!" I laugh and open the door to see River himself.

"Have her back whenever!" mom laughs and I playfully roll my eyes.

River chuckles. "Got it, miss C!" he looks back at me and smiles. "Ready to go?"

"Yup!" I get on my tippy toes and back down. "Bye mom!"

"Have fun!"

I shut the door and River and I get into his truck. "Cash doesn't live far from here so don't worry about a long car ride." he starts driving.

"Are they nice?" I nervously ask.

"No." he flat out says, taking me by immediate shock. "They're gonna kidnap you and never bring you back an-" he turns to me for a split second, seeing the hurt in my eyes "I'm kidding, love. They won't do any of that." he laughs. "I've been friends with Cash for twelve years now and he just got with Sophia a month ago. She's a pretty nice person, but I just piss the shit out of her off so she don't really like me." he laughs even more.
