River
"What's going on?" Cash stands tall.
"Addax. He escaped prison."
Everyone's eyes widen.
**
"What are we gonna do?" Pierson follows me into the kitchen.
I put my Oreos down. "It's what I'M gonna do, not you."
"I don't wanna be alone, River." tears form in her eyes. "He's gonna come right back for me! When I left him, he blew my phone up with these disgusting texts how he's gonna come back for me and-"
"-love, he's not gonna get you. If anything, he's coming for me." I laugh. "And that ain't an issue for me! I'm the baddest cop in the state of Georgia!"
"Please put your cockiness to the side, Riv. I'm genuinely scared of being left alone." she frowns.
I sigh. "That's why you're staying at my house. I'll catch the fucker, I promise." I laugh and shove another Oreo into my mouth.
"You act like it's not a big deal!"
"Cause it isn't! Look, I'm gonna get him. You're safe here, don't worry about it at all! I promise. I don't make promises, Pierson. You're fine." I state. She looks down and sighs. "I gotta be at work early tomorrow so I'm gonna head to bed. Goodnight love." I ruffle her hair before walking to my room.
I throw off my shirt and get under the covers, instantly closing my eyes to fall asleep since I'm already exhausted.
That is, until I hear footsteps.
"River..."
I exhale and sit up. "What is it?"
"I hate to ask you... but can I please stay the night with you in your room?" she shyly asks.
Something about that makes my stomach all... weird.
I nod. "Of course."
"Thank you." she smiles and gets into the bed next to me.
But it isn't long before she cuddles up next to me and my arm is wrapped around her to make her feel secure.
Damn.
**
She groans and mumbles as she wakes up.
"Shh shh, go back to sleep." I click my gun to my hip.
"Please don't leave me..." she sits up.
"I gotta go to work. I gotta find him, right?" I chuckle.
She looks down and back up. "My anxiety is too bad to be left alone."
I clench my jaw and look at the time on my phone. "Okay. Do you want to sit at the department with the other guys?"
"Please." she gets out of bed.
I chuckle. "Get ready, bed head!"
She gives a tired laugh.
I walk into the kitchen to make my coffee before Pierson immediately walks out, half assed dressed.
"I'm ready." she wrapped a blanket around her.
I playfully shake my head and lead her outside.
She gets into the passenger seat and I get behind the wheel.
"There's a pull out mattress in the back that you can sleep on once we get there." I start the truck on, putting on the heat first thing.
"Okay." she smiles.
