Mary ate the last of her plums and laid across the small bench. She closed her eyes until a breeze blew in her face. She looked up and saw Pietro.
"Hey princessa." He tilted his head. "Why are you sleeping here?"
"I wanted to stay in Sokovia, but Iron Man destroyed my home." Mary sighed. She sat up, allowing Pietro to sit next to her. "But I'm used to losing things now. Nothing hurts anymore."
"You can tell me anything." Pietro said. "It's not like I have anyone to share it with. If you don't mind, can you tell me why nothing hurts anymore?"
"Of course." Mary said. "So, my dad was drafted into World War 2 and died the year after I was born. My house burned down when I was six. I had to make a living for myself at sixteen. And at eighteen, I found the right person too late. Well, too late, but also too early, if that makes sense."
"If it makes sense to you, it makes sense to me." Pietro nods in understanding. "I know what it's like to lose someone important to me."
"Elliot, your mission is to kill Colonel Phillips before he is able to instill anymore attacks on our base. You have 24 hours."
Mary drove to Colonel Phillips' small house out of the city. She staked out the perfect place and time to execute her orders.
When the time was right, Mary crept in through the back door. She made her way to his room and, without hesitation, slit his throat.
"I'm a terrible person." Mary stood up and began gathering her things. "I'll find a new bench."
"No, stay, stay." Pietro begged. "You can't be that bad."
"I just remembered something from when Hydra was using me." Mary trained her eyes on Pietro's. "I'm a murderer."
"Hydra, huh?" Pietro's smile grew wide. "I work for them, too."
"What?"
"We both work for Hydra." Pietro said.
"I don't work for Hydra." Mary stared cooly at Pietro. "I hate Hydra with every normal and enhanced bone in my body. They are the reason I almost killed my best friend and I will never forgive them."
"Did they hurt you?"
"Yes!" Mary threw her arms up. "They destroyed my morals and made me do things I would never do in my right mind. Do you know what my mother went through when I didn't come home from Europe during a World War? I could never imagine losing a daughter and you know why? Hydra ruined everything."
"Mary I didn't think of it like that." Pietro tried to grab Mary's hand, but she jerked it away.
"None of you do."
_A few days later, Mary was eating a plum when she saw a familiar quinjet fly above her. She slipped her brass knuckles on and jacked someone's motorcycle. She raced to the fight.
Steve jumped off the ramp and onto the truck next to Mary. "Hey! Get out of here!" He shouted.
"No, I have to get back at Hydra!" Mary shouted.
Steve jumped off the roof and held onto the door. Ultron shot the door, causing Steve to swing into the side of the truck. He pushed the door back and it broke, causing him to drag on the road.
"Well, he's definitely unhappy!" Steve shouted. "I'm gonna try and keep it that way!"
"You're not a match for him, Cap." Clint said. "And is that Mary on the red bike?"
"You know it." Steve chuckled at how stubborn she was.
"Clint, get Mary." Tony said.
Clint flew the quinjet low enough to open the hatch where Mary could jump in. Her bike went flying into a car, causing an explosion. She stopped and widened her eyes at Clint.
"Take a seat, private." He smirked.
Mary smiled and strapped herself in. "Is now a bad time to say I'm scared of heights!" She yelled over the engine.
"Terrible time!" Clint said, steering the nose of the plane straight up. Mary squeezed her eyes shut and took deep breaths. "We've got a window! Four three...give them hell."
Natasha came out of the quinjet on a motorcycle. Mary's jaw dropped. Clint snickered at her.
"They're heading under the over pass, I've got no shot." Clint said.
"Damn, couldn't Hydra give me better powers?" Mary sighed. "I wanna be quick like Pietro."
"Boyfriend?"
"Hell no." Mary smirked.
"Oh shit." Clint muttered. "Hey, Mary, I hope you don't get sick too easily."
Robot soldiers began to swarm the quinjet. Clint spun in circles to get them off. Mary passed out.
When all of the robots were off Clint sink down in his seat. "Um, Mary kind of croaked." He scratched his chin.
"The hell did you do to her?" Natasha asked.
"She's scared of heights." Clint craned his neck to look at his passenger, knocked out cold.
Clint opened the hatch to let Natasha jump in with the package. The air current caused Mary to wake up.
"Clint, I wanna fight!" Mary shouted. She began to put a parachute on.
"No, get back in here." Clint said.
Mary disregarded his wishes and jumped from the jet. She landed far away from the fight on accident. She ran through the crowd to get back to everyone.
To Mary's surprise, Pietro ran through, holding her to his side while he pushed the civilians out of the way. Mary passed out again from the sudden quick movement. Wanda was able to get the train stopped, so Pietro laid Mary on the ground to catch his breath. Wanda ran to him in concern.
"I'm fine." He gasped for air. "I just need to take a minute."
"I'm about not willing to give you one." Steve said. "Did you hurt Mary?"
"No, she passed out." Pietro held his ribs. "I saved her first."
Pietro crouched down to hover ocer Mary. He blocked out Steve and Wanda's arguing. He shook her shoulder lightly to see if it would work.
When it didn't, he shook her chin a little. Pietro quickly grabbed her wrist to check her pulse. He sighed in relief when she was okay. He just needed to wake her up.
"Hey, have you two ever heard of fairy tales?" Pietro asked before grabbing the sides of Mary's face and pushing his lips on hers. "It didn't work."
