Mary squinted her eyes at the sun shining through her blinds. She never really understand the point of them if the sun's still gonna show through them. She never had blinds in 1943, she always pinned a black quilt to the window sill.
Mary looked at her bedside clock. It read two o'clock in the evening. Mary pushed her covers aside and changed out of her pajamas.
She looked through the closet, raising an eyebrow at some of the weird clothing pieces. She finally decided on a black jumpsuit with a beige coat and a pair of black Stuart Weitzman stilettos.
She grabbed the cell phone Steve bought her off the night stand and texted him, asking if she was able to leave the dingy apartment. He told her to make sure she had a disguise in case an undercover agent reconized her. She put on a black fedora to hide her face and match her outfit.
Mary slipped out of her small house downtown and decided to explore the Sokovian city. She went to the farmer's market to look around. She smiled to herself when she saw a stand with plums. Bucky loved plums.
Mary grabbed a couple of plums and handed the vender a dollar. "Um, ma'am, it's four dollars for two plums." He spoke in Sokovian.
"My gosh." Mary put her hand on her chest, also speaking his language. "That's expensive for a couple of plums."
"No, it's pretty cheap." The vender raised an eyebrow.
"Back in my day, everything was less than seventy-five cents." Mary sighed, handing him the rest of the money. "But, the world is changing every day. You have a good one."
Mary wondered around the city and found a little bench to sit at. A streak of blue ran past her. It stalled for a minute and came back.
"Well, hello there, princessa." The enhanced human took a seat next to Mary. "Hats are terrible for hiding from people."
"And you are?"
"You don't remember me?" He raised an eyebrow. "We fought the arrow man together during the battle last week."
"Oh, that." Mary said. "I was brainwashed. I'm not a bad person."
"I'm not either." He looked away, rubbing his neck. "The name's Pietro."
"Mary." Mary smiled. "Are you from here?"
"Yes, and you?"
"I was born here, but I live in America." Mary said.
"Nice." Pietro scooted closer, putting his arm around Mary. "I don't see a ring."
"I don't have one." Mary laughed lightly. "You're too much."
"And you're gorgeous." Pietro lifted Mary's hand and kissed it.
Mary's face reddened and she turned away. She had never had a man treat her with such respect. When she was with Bucky, he was sweet and gave his attention to her while they were together, but if he was around his friends, he would ignore her existence.
"Well, thank you." Mary smiled. "I need to get back to my apartment."
"Maybe I'll be seeing you again?" Pietro stood with Mary.
"Maybe." She shrugged with a sly smile.
"Until next time, Mary." Pietro waved.
"Bye, Pietro."

Mary jumped at the sound of rock breaking just outside her apartment. She ran to the window and tore the blinds down. The Hulk was going rampant in the streets.
"Holy shit!" Mary quickly ran to her closet and changed into her combat outfit. She wanted to wear to feel more badass.
Mary hurried outside into all of the commotion. She guided civilians to safety away from the big green man. She went back to Hulk to stop him, but failed because she has terrible powers.
Mary's head snapped toward the sky. Metal pieces began falling and surrounding themselves around Hulk. They enclosed him.
Mary ran to the police officers to try and explain what was going on, but the makeshift cage began to sink into the ground. Hulk blasted the cage into pieces and went back at his rampage.
The police shot at him, but the bullets did nothing. Mary went to the car he just crushed and helped the woman out. She had a large gash on her side.
"Do you trust me?" Mary stared into the woman's eyes.
She nodded quickly, tears slipping out of her eyes. Mary laid her hand softly on the gash and began her work. Within seconds it seemed as if nothing was there in the first place.
"Now go!" Mary pushed her to safety. "And tell nobody!"
Mary smiled in victory when Tony came in a gigantic suit. Things calmed down for a moment, so she found more people to heal and send off.
While Tony and Hulk fought, destroying buildings and cars, Mary found herself out of the city buzz. "Damn, I'm faster than I thought." She bent over to catch her breath.
Mary looked around and saw Steve and Natasha standing with Thor. "Steve!" She ran to her best friend, throwing herself in his arms.
"Hey, what are you doing outside without your disguise?" Steve tightened his arms.
"Your Tony friend kind of crushed it." Mary smiled sheepishly.
"You can stay at the Tower if you'd like." Steve offered.
"I kind of like it here." Mary smiled at her, now ruined, city. "I wish daddy would've moved here instead of America."
"That's good." Steve said. "I keep forgetting you're old enough to take care of yourself."
"Yeah, I'm almost a hundred, dad." Mary playfully punched Steve on the shoulder.
Steve chuckled. "I remember when we met." He smiled.
"I was arguing with Hodge over my peanut butter sandwich." Mary looked at Natasha to show she could hear the story as well. "He's always been a big bully."
"Yeah." Steve continued the story. "He had your peanut butter sandwich and I saw it, so I shoved my knee up his ass."
"I got my sandwich back and Steve got a black eye." Mary laughed a little. "But, when we joined the army, I was the one defending you from Hodge."
"Don't remind me." Steve rolled his eyes.
"Hey, we need to get going if we're gonna get rid of Ultron." Tony came up to the small group.
"Who's Ultron?"
"Little mistake of mine, nothing to worry about." Tony said. "Get back to your little hideout and everything will be fine."
"You destroyed it." Mary said. "I'm homeless now. But hey, at least I look cool."
"That's not enough." Tony went into the jet for a moment. He handed Mary a gun and brass knuckles. "The gun for defending yourself from a distance. Brass knuckles for when the fight is close. Be prepared for anything. You can stay here."
