As the sun took off its blanket of night and peeked just over the horizon, an old, rusty, faded blue pick-up truck was crawling across the countryside on a cold, gravel road a few miles away from a sleeping town that was slowly but surely waking up.
"It's too early!" a six foot fifteen year old boy complained. He featured twinkling blue eyes and spiked jet black hair. At the moment, he wore a face of boredom and tiredness, and, as all teenagers know, a tired teen is a grumpy teen.
"It is 8:00 in the morning!!!" the man at the steering wheel was ancient, probably around fifty or so. He had a buzz cut, grayed from age, and the standard kind-of-shaved beard that old people who think they are young, but are not have.
"I was busy until two a.m.!!!" the teen retorted as he turned on the radio.
"Doing what?!?! Sheesh, teenagers these days"
The radio crackled and sputtered a moment until it started speaking sense. "The nighttime vigilante, NiteFox, has struck again! He left Essole Casserole knocked out and tied up in from of the Westward police station. Police report Essole was severely beaten and had his left ear cut off before being stabbed in his leg, which instantly made him pass out from the pain. Too much? Maybe. Also, the so called 'rival' of NiteFox, entitled 'FoxHunter', has appeared yet again! Massacring every single person in the west wing of Toragon Central Police Station single-handedly, he has escaped capture yet again, leaving police scratching their heads!"
The teen smiled as he turned the channel; he liked hearing stories of the mysterious rivals. NiteFox appeared about 6 months ago, and FoxHunter following soon after. Sighing contently, he put on his mask of being a grumpy little teenager and continued his barrage of complaints.
"I don't even know these kids and you seriously expect us to get along??"
"Relax! They're related to me for Christ's sake!"
"That's what I'm afraid of..."
The driver simply smiled at that as the teenager continued his attack of complaints for the rest of the ride.

The boy rang the creamy yellow button on the faded green door called the doorbell.
"RING DING DONG"
"I got iiiiiiitttttttttt!!!" a boy inside the house sang.
A blond, short, 12 year old boy with emerald green eyes appeared in the suddenly open doorway, eating a banana. Seeing the old man, he gobbled up the rest of his banana and carelessly threw the peel over his shoulder. He beamed ear to ear as he helped the old man inside, but his smile disappeared when he saw the teenager.
A taller, teenager girl version of the boy slid down the railing, uber long hair flowing like sunshine behind her. As she neared the ending of her slide, she vaulted across the room, landing neatly next to the toaster, only to slip and fall on a banana peel that mysteriously materialized on the floor. She glared at the criminal, and then spotted the teenager. She blushed, thinking the surprise guest was better looking than she thought, then frowned too. She was definitely not going to let this guest know what she thought of him.
"What's with you people and frowning when you meet someone?! It's rude, didn't your old man teach you that?" the teen smirked with an arrogant, crooked smile, looking critically at the old man.
"Hey Dad, why didn't you tell me the circus came to town?" the girl smiled devilishly. This boy was definitely not what she was expecting.
"Err... this is Joshua." the old man said, looking back and forth at the two uneasily, "He's going to be staying here until a new, more suitable guardian gets picked"
