03.A Stone Throw

"Hurting someone can be as easy as throwing a stone to the sea, But do you have any idea how deep that stone can go?"

"Eunhyuk! wake up!..please! you have to get up", said a worried voice. To Hyukjae, it felt like if he was 1000 miles underwater...slowly sinking and hitting the soft seabed below.
He felt someone shake him but his eyes refused to open as if they were sewed shut.

"Lee Hyukjae!", the voice cried out in his ear, and with a jolt he realized that it was Jay's; Eunhuk's unofficial guardian whom his father had installed into the house inorder look after it, and Eunhyuk himself if needed; just like now.

Jay shook him again until Eunhyuk's bloodshot eyes fluttered open into a cold misty morning sky filled with gray rain clouds. He stayed still for a while to get used to the wind howling and to the light icy mist rain that was swishing down onto his face. He slowly got up with some help, and immediately threw up on to the side.

Jay tuttered and handed Eunhyuk a bottle of hot water,

"I was expecting this you know?", he muttered, while Eunhyuk tried to get a clear grip at his surroundings.

He was on top of high grassland that had a small ravine, down below he could see the Seoul city laid out like a web.

Eunhyuk looked down and saw that he was soaking wet; his shirt and hair were cover with stray grass, and his fingers were red and numb.

"How did you find me?", he asked and coughed hard.

"I tracked your phone", Jay answered simply, "and believe me, I wasn't surprised that you showed up here. You like this place don't you?"

"Yes", admitted Eunhyuk with a faraway look, "I like it here."

"Come on brat we need to get you home now, your mother almost fainted when she heard that you were missing"

Eunhyuk allowed himself a moment of satisfaction as Jay quickly pulled him up and almost carried him to the awaiting black car. After securely strapping Hyukjae with a blanket in the backseat and demanding that he drank some hot chocolate milk, Jay drove them home.

When they reached the large villa, Eunhyuk was feeling much better; he was able to walk straight when Jay opened the door for him. Just when he climbed up the staircase to the front door, it was flung opened by his mother who was staring furiously at her son's disheveled appearance in horror.

"LEE HYUK JAE!" she screamed "Do you know how scared and worried I was?! Explain yourself!"

"Explain what?" he asked innocently.

"Explain why you ran off like that!", said his mother; her chest heaving. "What if anything happened to you!?" she hissed.

"Lets just say that I got enough of our fake family life and felt like fucking the daylights out of any bitch who tried to come near me...Does that help?", said Hyukjae in a dangerous tone.

His mother turned white and Eunhyuk dismissed the guilty feeling he felt towards her. Atleast when he compared his mother and father, his mother was usually better at trying to make him comfortable.

"Language Eunhyuk", she said quietly.

"If I'm allowed to leave now, I can go and start getting ready? Uni is starting you know, and I don't want to get late because of you" said Eunhyuk rudely.

His mother moved aside without uttering a word, and he walked past her feeling guiltier with every step he took. He knew shouldn't treat his mother like this but try as he might, Hyukjae couldn't still make himself forget what happened to make his relationship with his parents like this; sometimes he would wake up in nightmares in the middle of the night. No; he could never forgive either of them. He stopped dead when he heard what his mother called out to hm.

"Eunhyuk? I'm going to drop you off to that University today. Whether you like it or not."

When they arrived near the university gates it was already 6.00 in the evening; and Donghae couldn't help feeling awed at the university's sheer size. He gazed up at the tall buildings and let out a contended sigh. He was going to spend the next 5 of his life here.

Donghae felt so proud and happy that his clear brown eyes shone with happiness.

"My!!! It's beautiful isn't it Donghae?" said his awed mother. Donghae felt inclined to agree when he saw lovingly tended red and white flowers on either sides of the gate.

"It looks like a fairytale mommy!!", said the equally awed Donghwa and ran off to take a closer look.

"Don't touch the flowers Donghwa!" called out his mother.

Donghae looked around to see many boys and girls going through the gates. He felt nervous; he didn't know the first thing to do in a university.

Presently, a large black Benz rolled down the street and stopped right infront of the gate. A beautiful middle aged lady got out and after her; a boy stepped out looking extremely annoyed.

They both stopped near the gates; and the boy, who was already towering up above his mother walked straight through them without glancing back.

Donghae was astonished, who can go like that without saying goodbye?

"Eunhyuk! arn't you going to say goodbye to your mother?", the lady called out, and the boy gave an annoyed sigh before he turned back and said "Bye" then he left without another word.

people here are seriously different, observed Donghae. He was snapped back into reality when he saw Donghwa; who had been running around like a crazy monkey; crash into the lady and fell down. Donghae and his mother ran to him. His mother apologized for Donghwa's naughty behaviour while Donghae picked up his little brother.

"Oh thats quite alright! he's just a little boy", she said nicely while looking at Donghae's mother.

"Is this your brother?" she asked Donghae.

"Yes" answered Donghae; glad because the lady wasn't mad at them.

She continued to look at Donghwa."Wish my Eunhyuk had a brother to play with" she mused to herself.

Before Donghae could say anything, she was hailed by a tall handsome boy who looked a couple of years older than Donghae.

"Aunt Deokboon!! It's awesome to see you after a long time!", he said smiling, "Where'sEunhyuk?"

"Oh he went inside already" she said "I should also leave now...and Leeteuk? please look after him and don't let him get into trouble."

"oh don't worry! you know I'm a good babysitter!", winked Teuk.

Eunhyuk's mother bowed formally to Donghae and his mother; patted Leeteuk on his shoulder and left quickly to the awaiting car.

Leeteuk looked at Donghae,"Are you new this year?", he asked curiously.

"yeah I am" answered Donghae gazing up at Leetuek.

"Great so if you are done saying goodbye, we can go inside together" he suggested.

"right just give me a sec" said Donghae and turned to his mom. After hugging her, he hugged his little brother.

"I'll give a call soon", he promised and his mother simply nodded.

"c'mon!" said the older boy and literally dragged Donghae through the gates, and away into a new beginning.
