16. Touch

"The hardest thing I have ever done is walk away still madly in love with you"

Eunhyuk didn't want to join the bonfire that night. All he wanted to do was to find somewhere peace and quiet to think.

He walked up along the forest path; a little away from the camping sight and found himself standing in the middle of a little clearing with pine trees all around him.

He looked up at the night sky; it glittered like another word when he saw so many stars blinking through pine needles. He sighed, and leaned against a bark of a pine tree.

There was no point denying it, he had begun to love Donghae. Eunhyuk couldn't imagine a life without his constant presence by his side. Donghae's sweet smile, his never ending enthusiasm an his calm and steady nature had already begun to be a part of Eunhyuk.

"you always know how to make me smile don't you?...I think I've finally found my natural painkiller" he said out loud and smiled.

"I love you Donghae, but I just don't know how to tell it to you...I can't help looking at you,
I can't stop my heart from racing when I'm with you and I want to see you smile, does that count even a little bit?"

and the fact that you're a guy and you probably shouldn't be having feelings like this?, said the same sly voice inside his head.
Eunhyuk cursed and brought his hands over to his eyes.

What am I gonna do!?, he thought desperately. He looked up at the stars again, but they went on shinning mercilessly, oblivious to his sufferings.

Eunhyuk shivered, he remembered the way he'd pulled Donghae towards him in the morning, he had almost given away his feelings then.
Eunhyuk knew he couldn't control himself whenever he was around Donghae.
How many times has he snapped at Donghae just to cover up his own feelings?

For the first time, Eunhyuk began to see things from Donghae's perspective.
Donghae had tried to offer him his friendship so many times, but he had always turned him down because he'd been stupid enough to think that he'll look weak.

Eunhyuk hated himself at that moment. How could he have done that to Donghae?!

"what kind of a horrific idiot am I?" he said out loud as tears welled up to his eyes.

When he had felt Donghae crying onto his shoulder, only then had Eunhyuk realized how hurt Donghae must've been all this time. Eunhyuk was sure that he would remember the way Donghae's chest had heaved as he cried until his dying day.

"I'll tell him about my feelings after this shitty trip ends" promised Eunhyuk wildly wipping his eyes as he went back to the camp.

When he got there, the campfire was already put out, and everyone had gone to sleep. Professor Sook had given strict orders to keep the one foccus light on.

But to Hyukjae's utter annoyance, the sharp light beam directly fell into their tent. When Eunhyuk got inside, he saw Donghae fidgetting desperately in his sleep to get away from the glare. He also noticed that the light ray wasn't falling onto his side of the mat.
If Donghae moved a little to his side, he would've been out of the glare.

Eunhyuk carefully got in to the warm sleeping mat and turned to face Donghae. He was suddenly hit by a weird feeling, it was the first time they were sleeping together. Donghae's pretty face glowed to the light and Eunhyuk propped himself up on his elbow, and went on looking at Donghae's fidgetting figure for a long time.

He sighed and brought his hand over Donghae's eyes and held it there to cut out the light ray and Donghae imediately stopped squirming around and settled down into a deep sleep.
